When one thing goes up, it must come down. The rise and fall is a rather constant flow of how things reach a wide audience all across the world when we talk about online marketing. It has become a popular trend to set up businesses online and gather hordes of money by carefully planned, strategic investments and so forth.

But much like everything else, the world of online marketing faces a hindrance in its path too-a seemingly small yet long-lasting tool which, the more it is used, the more it stops the successful flow of online marketing in today's world. This hindrance is given the name of ad blockers by experts. And what it blocks is not only the what and how of the content being displayed by websites; which, when viewed by users, opens a swift channel of income for them, but it also takes control of where sufficient data coming from the user's back end of the software goes so that useful data is not being accessed where the user does not want it to. It seems like a neat process, but it isn't...¦not really.

The world of online marketing has been witnessing the rise of ad blockers since quite some years now. But how are these ad blockers coming on the rise in the online marketing world to begin with? And more importantly,

What are ad blockers anyway?
Well, it is pretty obvious. As the name implies, ad blockers â€" sometimes also called content blockers - are basically simple yet full purpose-directed software programs which prevent ads from being displayed on websites. And the software does based on the fact that these ad blockers are typically add-ons. They are present for different internet browsers, such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer etc.
AdBlock Plus, being the most famous ad blocker on the web, is a plugin that has been downloaded and installed which is made available to a variety of web browsers. Many other alternative are available on the internet too, but AdBlock Plus remains to be the most widely used.

The impetuous rise of the ad block system in today's online markets can be taken into account by the fact that only recently, Apple announced that iOs 9, the latest version of the mobile operating system powering iPads and iPhones will now be supporting the ad blocking technology. The reach, therefore, of ad blockers has gone so far and wide so as to become a part of some of the best operating systems in the online market today.
Statistical Proof

According to statistical data gathered by PageFair and Adobe, the use of ad blockers has steadily risen in the past couple of years, from approximately 21 million users in the year 2010 to more than 181 million users in January of this year. However, experts believe that this adoption of the ad blocking system will considerably increase especially in the case of mobile as blockers, a process already initiated by Apple's iOs 9 platform now supporting ad blocks.

On the other hand, when it comes to the potential impact of ad blockers on the advertisers, experts have mixed opinions. The result of the same report mentioned above suggests that such an increasing rise of ad blockers could cost advertisers a total of about $40 billion by next year.
So why are ad blockers on the rise?

A lot of websites from small blogs to large, business-owned websites, online advertising is a major and perhaps their only source of income. So when something like ad blockers invade their sites, their marketing potential is considerably load. Not good. But then why do people made such great use of ad blockers and put a limit to the content thy view on these sites? What are the possible benefits of using an ad blocker plugin while browsing the web? Here are some of these benefits:

1. For faster loading time: The most obvious and wanted benefit: to completely eliminate ads from the websites they browse; it creates less of a hassle for them; user navigation on the site becomes easy.
2. To load web pages faster: Ads slow down the loading speed of any webpage so if they are blocked completely, obviously you would access the webpage faster.
3. For data reduction: Ad blocks reduce data usage so if you have specific and limited options to make good use of your data then ad blocking is just the right tool for you.
4. For security purposes: Some ads make use of scripts, which are essentially small, self-contained code snippets that are designed to perform certain functions on the webpage. This makes it very easy to gain access to the user's personal information. So for such security purposes, people make wide use of ad blockers.
5. For privacy in terms of online browsing preferences: Ad blockers appear very attractive to people who do not want their online marketing and advertising preferences to be known by advertisers and content networks. So if you choose to buy a book from Barnes and Noble instead of Amazon without the monitoring technology at the back end of Amazon to know about your preference, this is where ad blockers come in.

The inlet used for ad blockers to infiltrate any web content is pretty basic yet deceptive; much like Trojan horses, where they appear to be one thing but are actually doing something else. It does not matter the quality and quantity of extensions you are using, or how many ad formats you are employing in your web browser, the design of today's ad blockers is so perfect that if a user with an ad blocker searches for even the slightest keyword upon which you have put your ads on bid, your ads will definitely be hidden from them.

Everyone wants a swift, easy to navigate and good interface experience on the web when they browse different web pages. Ads somewhat come in the way of this easy access to web content hence ad blockers.
