Dragon - Voice To Text software ?

I'm really debating whether to buy Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 or not .... so I can do articles 2x or even 3x faster ... has anyone used it ?

It's $200 .... I don't want to waste the money if it sucks

I have it... I have DNS 9 perferred. I bought that over the new version 10. The reason why is because version 10 has been really picky about which computers it wants to work on. You really need a beefy computer to handle the software because it is so large.

I have a Dell running on Windows XP that I installed 9 on and I didn't have an ounce of trouble. 9 in my opinion works better than 10. Plus, it is soooo much cheaper. I picked up my copy at Amazon.com for $66.00 and that was with express shipping.

Take a look on Amazon and eBay. I would suggest that you get version 9 over 10. I bought mine for the same purpose as you, writing articles because I hate to type. Now, I can crank out out like 10 to articles in a day.

Also, don't forget to check out the system requirements before you buy. I hope that helps.

Don't pay $200, I've seen it on store shelves for $39 already and eBay it's almost always available for well under $50.

    Fantastic tool BTW.

It's the best voice to text software on the market and the price tag is justified. I second what Scot said about getting it cheaper.

Do a quick search on eBay and you'll be good to go

I use MacSpeech which has the same speek recognition engine. Absolutely love it. It's not perfect of course and does make some errors. I just keep going until the end of the article and then go back through and make the amendments at the end using the keyboard. Spellings always perfect of course - occasionally however it mixes up words or misses words out.

Time is money and if you are making money online that I would say that it is a very helpful tool which will significantly improve your productivity. If it was $200 it would be absolutely worth it. But as has been eluded to above you can get it much cheaper.

    Cheers,

I have the $50.00 version that I bought in Staples and it works great! Def. don't spend the $200.00 on that program.

If you're using Vista try the voice recognition software that comes pre-installed.

      Works for me!

I'm glad Vista's voice recognition is working for you but it was absolutely horrible for me.

I've got DNS 10 preferred and I LOVE IT!!! I had DNS 9 and loved it too but when I got a new computer DNS 9 wouldn't work on it so I went ahead and bought DNS 10. I highly recommend it.

I was going to get DNS but on the advice of a fellow warrior I tried the preinstalled program on Vista.

Just wondering what was giving you problems?

The problem for me was that it could not understand what I was saying. It was really bad. Less than 50% accurate. DNS is not perfect but it was waaaaaay better.

Some people report good results with vista's speech recognition tool but I couldn't believe how poorly it worked for me. I'm a native English speaker, born and raised in California and I don't even say "dude" a lot or talk with some surfer accent. I can't understand why it was so bad, it would have been funny if it wasn't pissing me off so much.

If you already have vista you may as well give it a try but if vista's speech recognition doesn't work for you, don't think that DNS will have the same problem. It just might work a lot better for you.

If you have any 64 bit version of Vista or higher the only DNS version that will work is DNS 10+. DNS 9 will NOT work on 64 bit operating systems at all.

There is a free upgrade to 9.5 for DNS 9 that allows it to work on VIsta 32 bit and it works just fine.

There is a work around you may find on various sites to make DNS9 or 9.5 work on Vista 64 bit but it is really unstable and makes it almost impossible to use the software on an extended basis.

If you program it well DNS 9 is all you really need UNLESS you have a brand new computer that is 64 bit. If your computer you are using has 4GB of Ram or more then you are using a 64 bit operating system.

    my 2 cents.
