Wow... Incredible! Did I just hit GOLD!?

One of my sites, in the insurance niche, just got a message from a very large, reputable company in the same niche that sell car insurance asking if I wanted some press from them and if I was backed by an insurance company and if I would be interested in that!

I promptly responded with a nice, message saying no I am not backed by anyone - the site is for informational purposes and that I was interested in getting backed by them.....and that I would be interested in what they might have in mind.

I was SO impressed by the opportunity I even included my phone number in the signature.

*crosses fingers and hopes for the best*

Sounds good, but be careful. You never know what kind of scams are out there
As long as they don't ask for any kind of financial details, I guess it's safe.

I'm actually in a similar financial niche where I'm hoping to sell the domain or site to come big company who might want it. Good luck.

      Good luck, sounds promising.

Make sure you also check that the company contact is legitimate, i.e. that the message you received actually comes from that company. Check the message headers in the email or give them a call if in doubt.

Double check the number you got against their phone listings.

Anyone with a computer and some software could set up a voicemail system pretending to be some major company, so check it out 9 ways to Sunday before doing anything.

Also, always get everything in writing when dealing with a company like that.

Good luck. Keep us posted as to how it's going.

Sorry Jaysmyne, it was me. I was just fooling with you.

No, seriously. I congratulate you, and I do wonder what "backing up" would mean.

    LOL Talinn,

I am REALLY curious, it looks like it outside of business hours for them right now, but I expect to hear from them early tomorrow morning. Seeing as they messaged me first thing Monday Morning at 6am my time which would be 9am their time on the East Coast.
    .....

GAH! I'll have to keep everyone posted! Soon as I find out more I'll post.

It makes me want to post again, asking for an intern to work under me...I think I'm credible enough and successful enough now to offer an internship (apparently according to some people yesterday I wasn't)

*smack forhead* They just asked me to post their press releases on my site. With their links on it. Ummmmm, I just responding telling them that, that kind of posting is considered a promotional blog post and I charge for that. I think they just want their link on my site because I am ranking well on the search engines.

This issue has plagued me and disturbed me greatly because many people look at POST count and REVEALED earnings, as a form of credibility, what they don't know is:

      1) REVEALED earnings are not the ONLY EARNINGS.
      2) One site doesn't tell much about other projects
      3) EARNINGS do not equate knowledge - one could have a ton of knowledge to give and not earn a dime because they do not constantly apply it.
      4) ^^^ Going with point 3, IM needs to be applied in a certain method to earn properly.
      5) I have not applied my knowledge because I have NOT had the chance or ability to due to a busy schedule.
      6) I see taking time out of my busy schedule to help a newbie learn the methodologies that I know, so that they may take it, apply it and earn from it as very generous on my part. All I asked in return was that they spend time on my projects as well.

Sorry if this doesn't fit with your ideal, but your ideal isn't my ideal and my ideal isn't your ideal. I have no need to justify my earnings/knowledge to someone who doesn't believe I can mentor someone. I very well can mentor people. People are ignorant to looking at the whole picture.

As for the excitement thing? I get excited every time things start going in my direction this thread is an example of that.... [/rant & defense mode]

Now not to derail - I will update with their response and will see if I get any cash out of this insurance company.

      Hey Jaysmyne,

Your last post about the insurance company instructing you to put their press release on your site doesn't sound to good for you and what they were leading you on to. Sounds like they want to get one way backlinks to their site only.

      Please be careful

As Eben Pagan says, we love to use emotional estimation and see only validation. Just wait and see what happens otherwise you could put yourself in a disappointing situation.
What you just experienced, Jaysmyne, plays out in many areas of people's business - especially split-testing (I've fallen for it) and product appeal. We get emotionally hooked at the possibility of our desired result from manifesting that we must bring a sense of rationale into our reason otherwise we create pain and hurt our businesses.

For one split-test, I got excited about a 300% increase in opt-ins so I ended the test prematurely, but ended up worsening the opt-in rate over time.

Why do you have to use an attorney for such relatively simple matters?

A bit like Eben Pagan. Lot's of big words, gobbledygook and psychobabble, with very little down to earth common sense, that no one can understand.

Thanks for the link to the article. I think the person who wrote that article has an agenda. Go compare still seem to rank well in the search engines. I added the letter example to my swipe file, I think I will also use this tactic . Thanks again for link.

They told me they'd keep me in mind for their 2010 marketing budget - basically blowing me off as 'not worth their time' oh well it was interesting to see what they wanted and as far as being emotional over it, yah maybe a little but - if I got overly upset that this didn't work out - then I have no business doing any kind of business!

      Hey Jaysmyne,

Hang in there. Business is business! It's a crazy world out there both online and offline. We all have "battle scars" from doing business. Keep a "thick skin." Know that in your heart things will turn in your favor someday. Persistance is the key word here. Keep on keeping on! As time progresses, your site is going to rank higher as an authority site anyway
