Have to pay to use Alexa Ranking?!

Have a client. Blog writing and maintenance. Regular stuff. A year ago, he offered me to do some "research" work. You know, check his list of competitor websites. To put it all in an excel table: Alexa ranking, some notes about websites, features, etc. Now, he wants to do more or less the same thing. Yet, it says that Alexa is no longer free to use?! I mean, if you want some additional info, you have to pay.

My question, are there any free alternatives? Or, I have to inform my client that he has to pay a monthly fee in order for me to do my job.

    Have you checked via the search tab and see if there is some thread similar to the subject? that may be an area to look and then do some research from there
    but as far as I have known it has been free

    Best check the website under the TOS best way to find the right answer

      Thx for this one, but when was the last time you used Alexa? It is free "in general," but if you want a more specific information, then you have to pay a monthly fee. I am not a regular Alexa user, but I don't think this was a case before. All the best!

        I haven't used Alexa in probably 5+ years but I seem to recall they've always had an upgrade/subscription service for more info.

          That is correct. Many types of services offer a suite of free tools and the option for a paid upgrade.

          While that goes against the, "If it's on the Internet it should be free" school of thought, to not understand this business model is silly.

          It has been my experience that those that always expect everything to be free to them, never-ever give anything away for free to others. lol

            I'm gonna play a fair game with my client. Will present what I can do with the current Alexa search options. If he wants more, then we will have to subscribe, at least for a month.

    I think Alexa has always had a premium option to get a full, detailed report.

    You should add the cost of the Alexa subscription into what you're charging the client.
