Do 'review' sites still work?

hey guys,
was looking over some old stuff last night and started reading one I had a while but han't followed up on at the time - about creating Amazon review sites. It's from 2010. I had heard that they don't cut the gravy any more (review sites, that is)..
Does anyone have any experience with them?
Would it be worth putting any time into one?

Particularly interested in what any old timers have to say who may have been using one in the past, as I seem to recall they were a big deal once upon a time?

  • Here is a semi guide which is solid for Amazon today if you are interested hope it helps

    Searches to Run
    Best/Top Rate + Product Name
    Cheap + Product Name
    Quality + Product Name
    Product Name + For Sale
    Product Name + Review/Reviews
    Product Name + Coupon
Where Can I Buy + Product Name
    Buy + Product Name
Best + Product Name + Review
Best + Product Name + Online
Best + Product Name + Year
    VS/Or/Compare to + Product Name

Metrics I follow when finalizing a niche are straightforward. I usually select ones which have:

    Search Volume - 800 to 3500
    KC - Under 30
Dozens of products available on Amazon
Product Price ranging from $50 to $500
    Not a seasonal keyword

To summarise it, here is the list of plugins required:

    Yoast SEO
    Jetpack by WordPress.com
    Akismet
    EasyAzon
    WordPress Backup to Dropbox
    W3 Total Cache
    Social Locker
    Q2W3 Fixed Widget
    Click To Tweet
Free Tools to grow your Email List, Social Sharing and Analytics by SumoMe
Pinterest Pin It Button On Image Hover and Post
    Outbound Link Manager
    Floating Social Bar
    Contact Form 7
    TablePress
    Thrive Content Builder
    Thrive Leads

    Setup Mandatory Pages / Menu
There are some mandatory pages you need to create before making your niche site live.

    About
    Contact
    Privacy Policy
    Affiliate Disclosure

Content Format [Hint: Write At-Least 700 Word Reviews]

So these are the final list I invest my time on...

    Facebook Page
    Twitter Account
    Google Plus Business Page
    Pinterest Business Page
    YouTube Channel

    Note
For Niche Site contents, I maintain at least 700 word for review articles, 1500 word for product list long tail keyword (eg. Best Road Bikes Under $500) articles and 1500 word for resources article. For me, this works great!

In general, shoot for at least 2-3 outbound links per post, and feel free to incorporate a lot more as long as they are all high quality and cited naturally.

I use Floating Social share plugin to add social share buttons to my niche sites.

Amazon (I use EasyAzon plugin to do this.)

    Wrap Up
    Develop high quality contents
Mention your keywords first paragraph and also on your content naturally (Don't cross keyword density more than 1%)
    Keep your keyword in URL
Add at least 1/2 media on your post (images/video)
Use your keyword as image alt tag
Include your keyword in H2 and H3
Make sure your contents are 700 word long (and for product list long tail keywords and epic resources, it's 1500 word)
Include at least 1/2 high quality outbound links (make sure the sites are not directly your competitor)
Add Table of Content using Table of Content Plus
Increase your site speed using W3 Total Cache (also a CDN service if you can)
Don't forget to add social share buttons on your post
Update your site with fresh contents on a regular basis

A backup plugin that I like for WordPress is "BAckWPup," which is free

"All in One WP Security and Firewall" does exactly what it says it does, providing a comprehensive security platform for WordPress.

A bar of iron cost $5. Made into horseshoes, it's worth $12. Made into needles, it's worth $3500. Made into balance springs for watches, it's worth $300,000. Your value is determined by what you are able to make of yourself

      ^ ^ ^ This

Amazon review sites, provided they are approached correctly are still very much a success. Shallow sites copying text from Amazon won't.

You need to create an authority site, full of fresh content that gives the reader good, solid information. Don't approach your content in a 'sales-person' way; if you do you setting yourself up for failure.

Erica Stone (Sojourn) has recently released a completely revamped version of Extreme Reviews. I thought the original was excellent, then she gave it a complete make-over in 2015, but this new, 2016 revamp is the best yet.

Yes, they do. However, mico-sites won't work now. You need unique authority sites to get ranked and bring in traffic from google.

      hey guys,

Yes, you can make money with Amazon today. As long as people are interested in products and are searching online to buy products review sites will work. Stuff from 2010 - that's outdated. You can make nice money with Amazon but you need to have ways of attracting people who are interested. If you master ways of getting traffic from where people interested in products gather - you'll make money. If you're thinking about ranking on Google, that's very possible, but you need to know what kind of webpages really rank high, what kind of posts etc.

Amazon review sites, provided they are approached correctly are still very much a success.
      Yes, that's true.

      Don't bet on it.

Keep in mind what low commissions amazon pays you. It is 4% for low ticket items. For high ticket items I believe there is a $100 cap. Yeah, you cannot make $10,000 per sale selling watches that are very expensive. Ditto for fine gems. Rich companies have a million ways to short you on commission earnings. Expect a lot of tears when you are told that a product you sold is no longer eligible for commission.
Hm...I've been promoting products from Amazon, Rakuten Network and CJ and I can tell you that, regardless of all drawbacks, Amazon sells better than anyone else and for me it's much easier to make sales and make money with Amazon than with other affiliate offers.

Typically, there are a lot more returns for high ticket items so the hold is longer for you. Frankly, it is a lot easier for me to sell 100,000 watches at $9.99 each, than 99 watches at $9,999 each
This depends on the very product you're promoting. I'm promoting products on Amazon that cost 1200 or more dollars and have never had a single return. Of course, cheaper products sell more frequently, but higher priced products on Amazon sell too and bring in higher commission. It's good to promote low priced products because that will upgrade your commission percentage fast and easily, but it's wise to promote high priced items too because it feels good seeing the nice jump in your account whenever this type of products are sold. However, in order to sell high priced product you need a really good review and you need more writing skill if you want people to spend money. With low priced items there's no worry, once at Amazon people will buy. There's no selling machine like Amazon.

To make it short...yes you can make good money with Amazon. If I could give you an advice it would be: choose the way you intend to get traffic and make an effort to be really good at it. Yes you can rank on Google and make money (it's even easier today than 2 or more years earlier), you can get traffic from Pinterest, Facebook, there is a way to get paid traffic and make profit with products on Amazon...Yes there are ways, but you need to learn how things are done correctly or it won't work! Learn and apply, then be disciplined. That's it.

The answer is yes. However, please remember that greedy Google will place three text ads at the top of the search page on average. That could get worse. Like they want to earn more money. Also, they like to give organic position one to a big name company. Maybe you will end up on position six or seven. Still, the traffic can convert above 1% and bring in some green.

Yeah, you cannot make $10,000 per sale selling watches that are very expensive. Ditto for fine gems. Rich companies have a million ways to short you on commission earnings. Expect a lot of tears when you are told that a product you sold is no longer eligible for commission. Businesses might also start finding excuses. Oh yes, when it is time to pay.

Yes review sites are very effective, but prepared to be committed to it for the long haul. Not related to Amazon per se but one IM review site I've followed for a long time is called IMReportCard. As far as I can tell, you will need to keep up with adding relevant content over a long time to increase your page rank, as well as build up your readership.
