.org vs .com -- is there a difference?

Hi Warriors!

I'm wondering if there's a difference in getting a .com vs a .org website to show up on results for search engines. Is one easier than the other to get ranked and search engine optimized?

Thanks!
Rebecca

I don't think it makes any difference in terms of the search engines, but people will assume .com most of the time. If you have the option, get both. Then, if you want to use .org, you can set up the .com to redirect.

From what I know no there's no difference between the 2 in terms of technicality. However, .com is registered better in the minds of most people. So if you had to choose I'd go with .com.

Although I've no real evidence, my feeling is that it is easier to get a good ranking for a .com than a .org. However, I do not have a huge experience with .orgs and the budgets have tended to be lower than with .coms.

In any case as previous posters have said, .com is upmost in most people's minds so I would use that instead.

I don't believe the search engines treat org, come or even edu any differently. It's just that most people will recite dogsbollocks.org in their head as dogsbollocks.com

    So .com resonates!

I think .com , .net , .org are the best for SEO.
.org is always more expensive than the others.

Both the com and org are excellent extensions. If a domain name is not available in com extension simply get the name in the net or org extension.

There are webmasters who own the com and org extension for a domain name are using .org for their website. An example which immediately comes to my mind is seobook .org.

The only reason why some people do not want to go with a .net or .org for their website is the fear of losing traffic to the .com domain name. However from a few statistics I have gone through the parked .com domain does not steal a lot of thunder from a developed .net or .org website.
