How Do I Transfer My Blog to a Buyer? - Flipping Sites

Hello,

I have hosting and domains that I can't keep anymore and they're expiring next month so I decided to just flip them to make extra cash. The problem is, how do I transfer them to the new owner?

These are Wordpress sites. One is a news blog and the other is a micro-niche site.

Most web-hosts have instructions on how to transfer a domain.

For WordPress sites, also use Wp-Db-manager, which will do a backup of a site with a single click, and download and keep the file (you can restore it into the new site, by just installing Wp-Db-manager there, uploading the file into the correct folder, and restoring it from there. Also save the Files in the wp-content Folder, so you can keep the same Themes, Plugins etc.

    Hope that helps

To transfer the domain name, you will need to "push" it. PM me if you need detailed instructions.

Also, transferring the actual website is easy. Just use the WP plugin All In One WP Migration by ServMask. Actually, for peace of mind, if the website is large or I've sold it for quite a lot of money, I use a guy on Fiverr. He's completely reliable and as I said, it's worth $5 for peace of mind. If you need a link to him, just PM me.

Thanks Anne! My site is quite small so I just probably have to push it on my own ) Thanks for the tip. I'll just Google some of the details.

Transferring wordpress sites used to be easy. But now it is probably easier to sue the free site migration service most web hosts provide. Contact them to ask them if they will do it.

I used Duplicator for this (free plugin for Wordpress) on a couple sites last year. It's a fairly easy process and they have excellent step-by-step guide.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/

(it's also a great utility for backing up your own site or moving it to a new host)

    Hope this helps!

I second Duplicator if you want to use software, but I normally do it manually. A Wordpress blog consists of the site files and the database. First, I export the database and then zip up the site files. I move the zip file to the new host, create a database, import the database, and then edit the wp-config file with the new database info. Pretty simple really, but a lot of people go for the software route.
