Conversion mathematics

Hi Warriors, this thread is actually for newer IM'ers. I want to make a quick point about conversions.

Suppose that you know it absolutely well that the product you're promoting converts %1 (from a friend who had 10000 hops and 100 sales, for example).

This doesn't mean that out of 100 hops, one will certainly buy the product.

Do not forget that a conversion rate of %1 means that everyone who visits the sales page has a %99 chance of not buying the product.

If put into statistical perspective, for a product that converts at %1, the chances that you will make a sale out of 100 hops is only %64.

My point is that while a %1 conversion rate can be considered good for IM purposes (I convert at %1 usually and consider myself successful); statistically it is still very poor. %99 chance of not buying is VERY high, do not forget this!

OK, I thought hops meant hops! The context didn't make any sense to me. is hops NOW supposed to also mean hits or visits? BOTH? Which one? Neither?

    BTW Traditionally....

HOPS means HOPS, which is the number of systems you go through to get to the destination.

HITS means HITS, which is the number of HTTP accesses. A given page could even have several hits depending on graphics, etc....

PAGEVIEWS means the number of pages viewed, and may be less than hits.

VISITS is the number of times hits have been from IP addresses that haven't had hits within the last period(say 20-30 minutes).
