Whre to get Legal Advice when Starting up?

Hello everyone.

I'm just wondering if there are any good Online Legal Resources you could direct me to as I'm wanting to cover my you know what before starting any kind of business.

Any online law firms that give legal advice, draw up terms of service, trademark stuff etc?

And if it exists, one that won't break the bank?

Thanks

many universities through the law schools offer free legal services. you can also try the not for profit, S.C.O.R.E. Its a great group of retired executives who offer their services at no cost and many have legal backgrounds.

It's essential to seek legal advice. I have engaged the services of someone I know, and don't pay for this however you should always ensure whoever you choose has a deep understanding of international law as specifically online law. When I was starting out, I took the time to set up my accounting, CRM and legal specifically as these core elements were the foundations of my business and although they take time to arrange, you want to be proactive in this area. If you do have quotes or invoices, look into developing online contracts as well - I am setting this up now as well as disclaimers too on my site.

you need to seek legal advice not from the forum no matter how good it sounds as you will get advice from that country not your one where you live, and they are all so different

Also taking legal advice from a marketing forum is in my book off to a bad start.

    Regional Warrior...

    You are right.

But if OP does not have the money to get a highly qualified legal opinion (and this is what I suspect), it is better to visit free advice websites, to have free advice from law students or to have the views of forum members rather than no opinion at all. At least to begin.

Usually the legal problems of someone who starts are simple and standard. And there are free resources to help us

But I agree that a good legal consultation in due form is the best solution. Unfortunately all of us do not have the financial resources to get it when we begin.

I don't know how you feel about it personally, but you would be surprised how many things you can successfully solve on freelance platforms with freelancers who specialize for legal stuff. For example, I know guys who write top class Terms and Conditions, Terms of Services, Privacy Policies, and similar for a reasonable price. Also, you can seek for a legal advice from some legal professionals who don't mind making some extra buck as freelancers. When it comes to trademarks and patents that is a proven thing. You can find both individuals and companies providing all kinds of legal services and assistance. See for yourself. Check out Freelancer or Upwork. Cheers! Nesha

    Folks

Thanks for all your replies, I am considering all of them. Pretty much this is my main situation right now.

And I don't want to be breaking copyright law. There are several guys on youtube that do it. Guitar Jamz (Marty Schwartz) is one of them. How can they do lessons of famous songs and be selling products on their website? Are the original artists getting a cut of what he sells on his website?

I think I'm going to have to consult a lawyer on this one.

    Has anyone tried legal zoom?

    Thanks

If you don't know what you don't know, legalzoom is a bad option. There are lots of lawyers (myself included) that are starting to offer DIY type legal products that give you the information and templates you need, with instruction on how to use them. It's more expensive than legalzoom, but not as expensive as hiring a lawyer for individual advice.

You raise a really great question though - I'll try and post a better response over the weekend.

  • If you would like to do any online business, you can take any help from the Online. On the flip side if you want to do business locally, you can take help from Locally. So first of all you need to take decision about which business you want to do. After taking decision about it, then you can take any help to any Legal advisor. Thanks for asking...

I've been using Legal Shield for many years. It's $17/mo for unlimited
advice and counsel on any matter, business or personal. For that subscription
fee they'll also review and advise on contracts and write letters when appropriate.

I wouldn't be without it. (I'm not an affiliate... just a very satisfied customer)
