[6 Things Content Masters Do That You Probably Don't]

OMG CONTENT SO HOT RIGHT NOW

It's a total cliche, I know. But damned if it ain't true.

Seems like almost anything is possible if you can make awesome content.

Want to get 'internet famous'? Make awesome content.

Want to influence a ton of people? Awesome content.

Want to sell your products and services? Sure... you can buy advertising to get 'em through the door, but how you gonna keep 'em around?

You guessed it.

But here's the thing... you have to be AWESOME. Just being 'good' is rapidly becoming not good enough. The people who make a living from their content have gone way beyond 'good'.

They've taken the subjects people want to know about, and put them through their own cocktails of expertise, empathy and personality... and made an impact on millions of lives.

Want to do that too? Want to become a super content ninja rockstar phantasm with a fried egg on top?

OK then.

Here's 6 quick tips to take you out of the doldrums of run of the mill content, and put you on the road to becoming a master.

1. SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT:

Obvious? Yes. Ignored? Absolutely.

Listen up. This is not a game. Becoming a top-level content marketer takes time. It takes dedication. It takes WORK.

You need to make a schedule - time every day. You need a room to work. That room must be distraction-free.

And when you go to that room, what do you do?

2. FRESH BAKED, DAILY:

It doesn't matter if you write, make videos, create infographics, slide decks or podcasts. You need to be creating. That means actively making new stuff every single day.

A big part of my daily work is idea generation. I spend 15-20 minutes every day just coming up with ideas for new content.

Once I have a good idea, I decide how I want the idea to affect my reader. For this I focus on making the idea touch a specific part of them.

3. MAKE IT PERSONAL:

How many parts make up our personality? How much of our makeup can we change? How can your content change your consumer?

As an example:

Think about how someone reacts when their beliefs are encouraged, or challenged. Or how someone's entire worldview changes when they're given a clearer vision of what's possible for them.

How do YOU feel when you're given the chance to learn a new skill, or think of yourself in a new light?

These aspects of personalty are well known, and when used with the next tool, can create new disciples and followers instantly.

4. VOICE EXERCISES:

What if you had a way to directly affect your customers emotions, right from your very first words?

What if you could weave a spell of possibilities over them, or touch them with love or wisdom, or inspire them to become better people?

Or maybe you just want them to get off their asses.

You can do all of this by simply picking a tone of voice, and staying with it through your whole content piece.

Once you've found the range of voices inside of you, it's much easier to let them show up in your work, and to grab your reader on ever deeper levels.

5. SCOPE IT UP, SCOPE IT DOWN:

Got your initial content? Cool.

Take a look at it and decide - is it more of a 'big picture' thing? Are you giving a "30,000-foot" overview, a broad roadmap?

Or are you down in the 'nitty-gritty', sharing all the dirty details, doing the step-by-step or the hokey-pokey with your audience?

Awesome! Time to expand or contract what you've just done.

Why? Because more content, more help, more people!

So take your "High Level Overview" and break it down into smaller, more detailed chunks. Or go wide on your step-by-step and make an image or mind map of the whole process
.
Often, you can do this multiple times with a single piece of content. And that's the beginning of our last tip.

6. MULTI-MODE/MULTI-PURPOSE:

Take that blog post and make a podcast about it. Take that podcast and make a slide deck from it.

Take that FB post and do a FB Live show about it. Take that tweet and turn it into any damn thing you want!

You're more than a marketer. You're a MEDIA COMPANY. You're only limited by your imagination and the time you want to put into getting your message out there.

That's how the pros - Vaynerchuck, Brogan, Garst - are everywhere all at once. They take an idea and adapt it for maximum reach and impact.

You can do it too. I know you can.

Just take the best parts of yourself, the parts that you know will make a difference to someone else, and put them out there.

Keep doing it, keep getting better. Keep listening to yourself. Keep listening to your audience. And look after them. That's the real key.
