Driving Traffic to Amazon Review Sites

Amazon review sites with affiliate links sound like fun to build and, potentially, lucrative. The question is how do you drive traffic to them? It seems like it would be hard to get ranked high with Google unless you had a massive authority site. Is paid traffic the only way to go?

    Social media... all the way.

However, instead of a "review site", make it an "information site" that people find useful.

  • Make it a review site but make sure you review things that people are searching for so check the keyword tool to see what people what reviews for then review those. Good luck.

If you have millions of daily visitors, maybe.

If you write high quality reviews that give valuable information, you'll get good traffic for some subject-areas, with no additional work, from long-tail traffic.

Doing just that, you'll make money on some subjects, and not so much on others (I know this from experience). The only way to find out is to test it.

One of the challenges is that now Amazon does not allow you to mention any prices, or customer-ratings, or quote what a customer has said, or summarize, generalize or approximate any of those (so you can't even say that one product is rated better than another at the time of writing), unless you use their API, it becomes challenging to add any value for people reading the report, since you can't really say anything about what real customers think about the product anymore, with Amazon.

However, there are a lot of other affiliate programs that have most of the same products as Amazon, so you can do really good product-reports with those. Share-a-sale is one good affiliate-network for physical products.

    Hope that helps.

Chris, that's interesting. I didn't know Amazon had implemented that rule. That does make it harder - but, you're right, there are lots of other affiliate programs out there. Thanks for the info. :-)

Just don't fall for the usual suspects -- dslr cameras, laptops, etc... You'd have a better chance selling hammock stands with the amount of competition in these areas.

That's a good point. I think too many people try to target the "hot" areas that they know nothing about. I'll stick with what I know. Thanks for your input!
