To say free traffic-generation is over, or impossible, or will ever be over, is indeed foolish. I generated free traffic in the 37 seconds it took to write this post. One method, among thousands.

  • As far as I know the Free traffic source is still active. You can take a look on these if you want. There are many free traffic source are available online, you can use any ways. Or, you can use more than one way at a time. Most of the people are using the Social Media site to get traffic at the moment. If you have a Facebook Fan page with many Followers, you will get a good traffic. Beside the Social Media site, you can do Relevant Blog commenting, Article submission, Forum posting & so on. Thanks for asking.

I was a little blunt with my first post, OP, and for that I apologize. (You caught me pre-coffee.) Chances are, you're probably just feeling a little frustrated right now. Not a problem. Let me give you some ideas to chew on.

In fact, I'll give you 10.
    1. Create, publish, and rank videos in Youtube and in Google for valuable, low-hanging fruit terms.
    2. Create keyword blog posts, infused with viral potential, and seed them in free traffic locations (your own social platforms, other social platforms) in order to kick-start viral reactions and, with all those social signals, boost your Google ranking (for those keywords).
    3. Write and syndicate free eBooks.
    4. Grow social platforms and monetize appropriately. Grow FB groups, FB pages, G+ communities, G+ pages, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, any social in fact where your core audience hangs out.
    5. Setup Google Alerts for relevant keywords and ensure these are delivered to your inbox the instant the media appears online. Be the first person to add worthwhile content to relevant forum posts and blog posts that can, if you keep this practice up over time, deliver higher and higher levels of targeted traffic.
    6. Free classifieds; just be sure to take the white hat approach.
    7. Social bookmarking. You learn how to work them correctly, they'll send enough traffic to crash servers. Here.
    8. Traffic trades.
    9. If you have no traffic? No problem: guest blogging! Webmasters always need great and unique content. Give it to them - but in exchange for links to your own website.
    10. Your own ASSETS. Whenever you do anything in IM related to traffic generation, you should always ALSO be building your own traffic assets: newsletter subscribers, Wordpress subscribers, forum members, social followers. If you can collect your core audience? Collect them.
    So...

Above? 10 easy tactics to get you started, OP. Now - dig in!

For example, you can post pictures on FLICKR and get traffic that way. I get a lot of traffic from Google images. Most people do not think about photographs and their incredible power. Yeah, it is something that they ignore. However, these need to be compelling scenes. Like it is not just an awesome beautiful panoramic view. Remember to include an athletic person climbing a mountain or swimming across a river.

There seems to be a never-ending cycle going on. A new player comes on the scene (like social media sites). Someone figures out how to leverage that player for their own gain. Said someone then lets the cat out of the bag. Another someone comes up with a way to "strip mine" the player using automation. The player either disappears altogether or starts putting in tough new rules or making changes to keep the strip miners out. Either way, using the player no longer works.

    It happened with Usenet newsgroups.

It happened with Free For All links pages.

It happened with banner exchanges and blog rings.

    It happened with article directories.

It's happening now with Facebook and other social sites.

    It will continue to happen.

Many free traffic methods no longer work, but some still do. Tom gave you a pretty good list to get you started.

      Snapchat
It will to longer to grow, but I believe you should have a mixture of both paid and free traffic. How much is completely dependent on your budget. I've had success with both.

Slideshare immediately comes to mind. A free traffic source.

REDDIT! Can't forget about them, either. They're huge. I've driven so much traffic from Reddit to some of my niche sites by providing quality content to them, and then had it upvoted so it got even more attention. All for $0

Free Traffic is one of those elements of Internet Marketing that will never vanish, if it does, so does IM. And if the multiple current sources or methods of free traffic were to come to an end, other sources/methods will take root.

Unfortunately, I would disagree with most of you. (Tom, you too.)

Free traffic is mostly over (I used mostly, please note). I will explain why I say so.

None of the older traffic methods work.

    Why?

    There's just too much competition.

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Guest Blogging, Amazon eBooks... (list them on).

And even if you want to do it for free 24 hours a day, you are still paying it with your precious time. As a startup, you don't have enough money to keep 10 employees even. Let's face it. So, if you are working in your business, how can work ON your business?

    Not a feasible option.

    So, all these methods like...

    Growing social media presence.

    Writing and syndicating eBooks.

    Social bookmarking sites.

    Guest blogging.

    So on and on.

They really are not efficient anymore unless you have a big team working with you.

    Or, you generate MINDBLOWING content.

I follow websites and blogs in the business and technology niches primarily. And I can tell you, the in-depth case studies, the unique statistics, the detailed articles that they write almost every day...it's NOT possible for a one-man blog. Forget about it.

However, remember that I said, "mostly over". It's not totally over in the sense that if you can find some growth hacks, you can definitely make it work.

However, growth hacks are just that - "hacks", not strategies. And they are temporary. You can definitely spike up your traffic or increase your signups in a day, but can you really retain them? For that, you need to generate constant value. And for that, you have to shell out investments on creating the most optimum content. Providing cutting edge software for free. Or regularly hold webinars and conferences to retain the traffic. It's a time-consuming and in most cases, expensive process.

If you look at the income stats of most high-end bloggers, you will find out that they shell out thousands of dollars per month on their blog.

So yes, Free Traffic is mostly over.

As free traffic methods become more and more competitive, paid traffic methods also become more and more expensive. For one, you need to spend more time, and for the other, more money. Maybe those who spend the most time or use the best strategies will reap the greatest free traffic rewards, but the bottom line is, free traffic still works.

We should not forget that one of the reasons why many people turn to Internet Marketing is because they know it's possible to build a profitable business there with no startup capital. That being said, in my opinion, if free traffic 'dies', Internet Marketing will take a 'fatal' hit and slowly 'die' as well.

      lol

You're doing it wrong if you think that's true.

YouTube and social media are HUGE if you know what you're doing. I'm talking millions of views per month for about 10 hours of work per week and no I don't have a "team".

That's normal. Everyone wants to maximize the utility of their resources ...

    It depends ...

In terms of RoI and opportunity costs -- I think proven free traffic generation campaigns usually turn out to be more expensive than paid advertising, especially in many low ticket business to consumer (B2C) niche markets; and

Here's why -- It generally takes more time to do these campaigns because a lot of traffic needs to be produced before reasonable revenues can be generated, especially in low ticket B2C niche markets ...

    However --

Also in terms of RoI and opportunity costs -- Free traffic generation campaigns sometimes turn out to be more effective and much cheaper than paid advertising, especially in high ticket business to business (B2B) niche markets; and

I think this is primarily because, compared to low ticket B2C niche markets and the time it takes to generate monthly net revenues -- You only need to capture a few leads and close a few sales in some high ticket B2B niche markets to generate significant monthly net revenues for yourself ...

    For example:

I spend a few hours per week hanging out in certain LinkedIn Groups and Web forums that specialize in my target B2B industries; and

These online places are also where my target B2B niche market hangs out so as to find and discuss what they want ...

I've been doing this for the past 3 years now; and

I've also tested paid ad campaigns in those online places. I did this after confirming that the traffic in those specific online places could potentially generate significant monthly net revenues for myself ...

    ... AND ...

Because of the nature of my target B2B niche market and the things that I sell -- I only need to capture the attention of at least 5 leads at any given time; and

I can close a sale with 1 of these 5 leads on average. That's after a few hours of phone appointments and Skype chat sessions ...

That one customer generates an average of $5K monthly net revenues for me during the first month; and

In the next 1 to 3 months on average, that 1 customer brings in 2 to 3 clients on average. By this time, I generate an average of $15K monthly net revenues from this 1 customer and 2 to 3 of his or her clients ...

Customer lifetime value is 3 years on average (at least that's how things are going since I haven't lost a customer from the day that I started in my target B2B niche market); and

Client lifetime value (clients of my customer) is 10 months on average ...

And, I found out that with paid ad campaigns in those online places:

    I convert less (1 out of 50 leads) ...

This means I spent more time and money when I did this ...

    Plus --

Taking more than 3 customers with 2 to 3 clients each at any given time requires me to invest 500% more time, invest 500% more resources and increase my risks by 300% ...

That means I can't probably scale this up, so my only option is to expand to other B2B niche markets with similar needs ...
