Is there any way you can sell the site and transfer ownership of the group over to the buyer? I don't know what else you could do that would be better than that. One thing I would definitely not do is continue on with the charade.

I agree. I am going to "come clean" on the ownership of the site and if I lose visitors, so be it. Thanks for the good advice.

If you are tired of playing the impostors, sell your blog to a woman interested in taking over.

Sven300: Thanks for the advice. I'm not interested in selling the site, but I am interested in being legitimate. I will "sell" the site to myself and let my readers know that the site has changed ownership.

I think that is your best option. It will be an easy enough transition and it will allow you to be your authentic self. It is the best way to get a fresh start.

Thanks, Danielle. Yes, I think that if I am planning to continue the site, I will need to re-introduce myself and let my readers know that while the "face has changed" the blog's intent and focus remain the same.

A bar of iron cost $5. Made into horseshoes, it's worth $12. Made into needles, it's worth $3500. Made into balance springs for watches, it's worth $300,000. Your value is determined by what you are able to make of yourself

You might want to engage a writer that is in your target market (a 35 year old female with writing experience) to help with some content management, this might provide a better insight for content and allow you to hand over some of the leg work content-wise. This dilemma sounds like a movie I have watched I'm a 36 year old female and I would be guessing as a 56 dude it might be a tad challenging to channel in your feminine side on an ongoing basis. Well done to you for pulling it off for this long

Thanks, Gingerninjas. I have not been able to channel the Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner in me (since I don't have any) so that plan won't work. However, others have successfully convinced me that I don't need to be a work-from-home mom to provide articles of value for my blog's readership. And, to your point, I do have a 35-yr-old female writer who writes most of the copy anyway.

Keep it simple and carry on..Hope this helps..

    Hey there,
Why don't you just say you are taking over the blog and Linkedin Group as your wife has lost interest. You have been on the sidelines the whole time and love the dynamics of the group and site and would hate for it to change because you are in the hot seat. Run with this story for a while and you should be able to keep your audience.
Obviously you have been doing the right things otherwise you would not have an audience
    Hope that helps

Good advice, J. What you said is exactly what happened so I'm sure most will appreciate the honesty. My blog is a blog for work-from-home Moms so some members might not feel I'm qualified to write on this topic but I'm hoping that most will give me the benefit of a doubt.

I think this is a fabulous dilemma to have; and as a female I'm killing my sides with laughing - sorry but I do think this is rather funny at heart even though I'm not laughing at your conscience and wanting to be authentic.

Keep the site, explain you've been managing the site for your wife; and create work from home for mums and dads i.e. whilst looking after the kids - you may broaden your audience as to my way of thinking lots of dads may potentially want to be able to also work from home so they have more children, partner and family time. Who knows maybe your wife could write a guest post every now and again to retain the authenticity of the blog and the page.

Anyway good luck with whatever you decide. You could also do a Robin Williams transition like in the movie Mrs Doubtfire.

In other words; go for it and best of luck.

        Hope this assists.

Well it really is a funny but if you want to come clean about it then it is good to see as most of people will rather exploit the situation. Your blog must be about lifestyles or something because there people can easily make assumptions about the gender of the blogger.
You still can use it for your advantage. Write about it in a funny way. that way things will straighten out for good. You might lose some followers but it is okay because the ambiguity will be gone. And for future you can put up a profile picture or something that will stop this from happening again.
