What's the benefits to selling your ebook on Amazon? What's the benefits to selling your ebook on your own website? Which is better?

Hey there. If you publish your ebook on Amazon there are millions of people looking for content there already do the chances of you getting traffic to your ebook is higher than if you promoted it yourself.
I recently purchased a product that went through the whole process. You can see my video here that shows you the benfits of publishing on amazon

Do both. Publish it on kindle. Then promote it on your website.

You can either link to Amazon from your site, or sell it as a higher price pdf download. You'll make more money that way.

Also, you can take your ebook and publish it on createspace. Then if people want to print on demand, you can set the price higher and you make more profits with createspace.

      Most of the time, this:

I say most of the time, because it depends on whether or not you need their help. The main benefits of KDP come in the form of legitimacy and traffic. The average person is simply more comfortable purchasing from Amazon than a relative unknown platform and you also have to consider the advantage that comes from tapping into their pool of readers; if you're a clever marketer, as well as a clever writer, then you'll learn how to work their ranking lists.

Well you would be branding yourself for one but I suppose your book cover and do that as well. I would start with some PPC traffic to make sure my book converts. If you can't get a conversion with PPC traffic you most likely won't getting any even if your book is on amazon. I use PPC to test a lot of stuff before I really ramp things up.

Selling it on your own site gives you added flexibility around bundling, bonuses, upsells and back-end sales to your customer since you own everything from the packaging to pricing through to the sales process...that is clearly not the case if you sell it on Kindle.

Advantage of Kindle is of course, the platform and audience.

What we typically do is create product packages that we sell from our different sites, and in some cases where we know there is a strong audience on Amazon, we will try different entry-level ebooks that are designed mainly to capture attention, bring a buyer to the table and then expose them to additional offers within the ebook itself.

Also hit the physical product space through Creatspace as well by the way.

Leveraging on both is the way to go. The amazon platform which is authority + audience can bring the sales in faster but also note that spending more of your time to build your product site might be your magic bullet in the long run.

My concern with putting it on Amazon as a kindle is that if I can't get it ranking well then it might not sell well.

Kindle books sell for less, so I don't see how you can sell it on kindle and on your own site because you probably don't want to sell your book for 2.99 on your site. Unless you're going to sell it at a different price point on your site.

I like the idea of putting my book on Clickbank and having other people promote it for me. And I would like to be able to have an upsell. With kindle though, you don't have to have a sales page which probably cost a lot.

Maybe it should depend on the length of the book. If it's short - kindle, if it's longer - sell it on your site for more.

    Hey

I was having this discussion the other day with someone...

Selling on Amazon is quick and easy to set up, you can literally write a book, create a cover and have it on Amazon within a day.

But why would you let someone take soo much of your profits!! Yes Amazon is a huge market place with loads of customers but due to it being soo easy to publish your book on their I have found the markets way to saturated!

Does that mean you won't make money on KDP? Of course not, I make money on their every month but you sure would have to work harder and you are to the helm of the powers that be - AMAZON!!

So to conclude, I would recommend selling your book on your own site.

If I was you I would personally:

    1) write a short book, shorter version and sell that on Amazon at a low price, putting it on for FREE for 5 days. i have seen my books generate around 2K+ downloads within 5 days.

    2) Have links in your book to an email lead magnet or to your full page book on your website

    I hope this helps.

Try doing both if it is not that big a hassle for you to manage. Kindle will serve you best for the publishing of your product whereas afterwards you can promote it on your own website. there are then two ways to go about it
One way is to post a link to Amazon via your own website, the other is selling as a higher price pdf available for download.
An additional way could be to publish it on Createspace. From there if you get demand from people to print , then set a higher price and earn more profits through Createspace. Do not forget to put it on an Affiliate site like Clickbank or JVZoo in order to attract affiliates to sell your product for you. If it is a Non-Internet Marketing / Money Making E-Book I would recommend Clickbank over JVZoo. Whereas for your next upxoming product you can only focus on the one that had the most success.

Honestly, I'd work on "Branding Yourself" first and then selling the book!

I'd do a webinar and sell the E-book at the end.

Or I'd just setup a funnel and promote it through Facebook Ads.
