How do the kids of Silicon Valley know how to make money?

Sometimes I wonder..

How do the kids of Silicon Valley know how to make money?

You'd think they'd learn from places like Warrior Forum first, and then move out there..

But they seem to be totally disconnected from us.

It seems like two totally different worlds.

I guess the truth is most startups out there never make money. Most fail. Also, they seem to often lack a monetization model. They seem to get funding first and monetize later.

But to get funding, don't they need to have some sort of monetization in tact?

I guess I dont know exactly what I am saying here, but.. it just seems like there are two worlds online -- our world and their world.

The Silicon Valley biz model is all about the 'next shiny object,' just at a much bigger level.

A lot of these young coder guys try to get in an incubator. Hope they come up with something, and investors buy in.

Basically they're looking for anything that will get a 1mil+ downloads and optins fast. Then the investors will pour in.

      Cool
      Thanks
I'd love to learn more about the Silicon Valley world.
Is it kind of like a hollywood where people move there with dreams but only a few make it?

I wouldn't even stress how they do it. As long as you're making money in your own business, all is good in the world. And you can even move out there to Silicon Valley to live amongst these money-making kids.

Many are already out there. Stanford grads who are smart as a whip in technology and they develop ties to Venture Capitalists who are aching to give their wads of Money to these whiz kids

They are. Silicon Valley is not the place where solo home based Internet marketers dwell. They are technology-focused thinkers and new idea generators. They don't make their money peddling affiliate offers, $7 ebooks, or SEO courses.

"You'd think they'd learn from places like Warrior Forum first"

Hardly. They are not marketers typically. What we do and what they do are different career paths.

      Well said.

i might add: many times they come from families where "funding" is a tradition,
so they go with a "brilliant idea" and Dad says he will double-check it with his
attorney first, and then we call your uncle and get you a first round funding,
      you should be alright son.

The son gets in such a good mood, he goes downtown and buys himself
a brand new Porsche 2016 model on credit. lol.

I think you'd be surprised that if you had all the time in the world to just "hang out" and think of ways to support your cushy lifestyle making money, that sooner or later you'll come up with something.

I know that's what my business partner and I did just before we came up with our first legit money making venture...we would hang out in our local Starbucks for up to 4 hours a day simply dreaming, brainstorming, and we eventually came up with something good lol. I imagine with the Silicon Valley kids it's something like that hah.

Listen to this episode of the Tim Ferris podcast where Mark Andreeson (of Andreesen Horiwitz venture capital notoriety) discuss many things including the Valley - fascinating.

Marc Andreessen — Lessons, Predictions, and Recommendations from an Icon | The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss

His show notes contain some great books for best reading on the topic as well.

Definitely do come from a different place - not marketers, but technology people - the Valley is all about VC's and Angel investors trying to mine genius from a very large technology pool.

A lot of money is thrown away seeking out a relatively small percentage of big winners...

Interesting enough, many of the actual inventions (ex Facebook started in Cambridge MA) but moved to the Valley because that's where both the money and development talent is centered.
