i need free software / script

Hi,

First of all, I apologize if I created this topic in the wrong sub-forum, but it's the one that seemed the closest to what I'll be asking about.

Secondly (and I hope I know how to ask this), I'm looking for a free software or script that does this:

1) lets people upload small files (screenshots for proof, and the alikes) to that software's account (which I will be the admin of, and probably the only guy that has access to it. I don't want people to create accounts and have other privileges, I just want them to upload the files, and move on)

2) each time someone uploads the file(s) a counter is AUTOMATICALLY updated on the home page (not necessarily the home page, but a page), so that everyone who visits the page can clearly see how many people uploaded files (if someone uploads more than one file, at different times the counter must still count as 1 upload, based on that guy's ID, username, or whatever I'll tag them with)

3) the said counter MUST reset (itself, or by myself, it doesn't really matter) at preset times (say on the 1st of each month, or whatever), or when I reset it manually (I'm flexible here, so it can work either way)

That's all! Basically, the script should do these 2-3 things, BUT... I have no idea if such a script / software exists for free, or if anything similar to it exists. I'm currently logged into my hosting cpanel and looking at all the pieces of software that Softaculous has, but there are so many of them that look alien to me, and I have no idea which (if any) of these scripts is what I'm looking for, and I don't have time to try them all, either. I only played with 3-4 of them and I already wasted 2 hours

If anybody knows of such a script / software / whatever (doesn't matter if it's in the Softaculous' library, or somewhere else that can be downloaded from, as long as it's FREE) please share the tip! Or, at least tell me what I'm looking for, so I can google it

Thanks!

You are not going to find a script like that for free. I don't think there are any paid off the shelf ones either. It sounds like you need a custom script created. Since you said free, it may be time you started learning PHP and write one.

What you want is so one-off, that I highly doubt you could find such free or paid.

Depending how badly you really want or need it, you will likely need to have it custom built.

My philosophy is that time is a writer’s most valuable resource, and therefore that script writing software should help you save time. I favor script writing software that is easy to learn, easy to use, functional, bug-free, and reliably updated.

To everyone who replied, yeah I was afraid this might not exist. Thanks, though, for taking the time to confirm my feelings

    Cheers!

You can browse fiverr, Fiverr has some good developer staffs who can make scrips for you. You can create automatic scrips from there too, Price is cheap also.

I was just being on Fiverr right now .... Not for this matter, though. I was looking for something else, but yeah, I know about Fiverr, I'm using it monthly for my needs and it's helped me a lot in the last 2 years.

But, like I said, I'm interested in a free tool (in my simple mind a script / software that does only 2 things, and basic, too should not cost money, so....)

    it's easy!

you get a free forum script, included with all cpanel accounts

then you create a private section for each person/member

only they can access their section, you can access all

counters are included, you can reset them

    end of story

Hi Monere, there is free off the shelf software that will do parts of what you are looking for, and there may be plugins that will do the other parts, however how suitable they are is another matter. You don't mention in your post, what platform your site will be running, (Joomla!, wordpress, Magento, or something else). This information will enable better guidance

I didn't think about which platform I'd be using, because I hoped there would be a standalone tool that does this. If anything, I guess I could use Wordpress, but seriously, for what I'm interested in a simple HTML/PHP script should do the trick, which is why I don't want to complicate myself with WP or other tools that need to be constantly updated and which take up resources.

I guess I'll try WP if anything else fails. Somebody else on this thread mentioned forums, and I did think about them before opening up this thread, but if WP seems too complex for what I need, imagine my thought about forums

Anyway... I'll figure out something in the next 1-2 weeks (probably gonna go with WP)

      Cheers!
