How to find images for every post

by ep2002

Hi everyone,

So I'm finding it really difficult to find royalty free images for every single post.

I tried using Zemanta, but the images are less than desired.

I have no budget to buy even from the least expensive which as far as I know is Dreamstime, as the prices for all stock photography has really gone up over the last few years.

iStock was once great until they were bought out by Getty, & while I love Getty's images, the prices are just not for me.

Any solutions?

Thanks

Instagram pics are royalty free & allowed to be scraped to use on commercial sites without the user knowing?

it depends what you do with it.

basically the source is social media, right. Now if you reuse it on another
social media site, and reference the source, what you basically doing is giving
credit to a like minded individual. And that guy gets credit, he will say: "thank you"

No, as I stated in my original post, these are for blog articles. So I guess that means no, correct?

          Wrong!

Credit or attribution is not a substitute for permission or a license. Pirating images and then giving credit later is not the way to do things.

Ownership Rights Instagram users own their content and Instagram does not claim any ownership rights over your photos. Nothing about this has changed. We respect that there are creative artists and hobbyists alike that pour their heart into creating beautiful photos, and we respect that your photos are your photos. Period.

Scraping Instagram for photos is terrible advice, and the image source is the photographer or image creator, not Instagram.

No, no, no, no. Simply giving credit will NOT protect you from a copyright infringement claim. Doesn't matter if it's social media, a blog, whatever. If I found out you used my work without permission, I guarantee you'd be hearing from me.

Not only is pirating photos from Instagram bad advice the picsearch site you linked states this at the bottom of the home page.

You must obtain the appropriate permissions to use any image linked to from Picsearch from the owner(s) of the material.

I the person was wise to begin with (not just talking about this person, but EVERYONE who talks out of their ass when they don't know shit about a subject - no pun intended & sorry for my language, but I get really PISSED when people pretend they know something they don't), they just wouldn't say anything, or they would go learn & THEN partake in advising.

How do we squash this lousy, dangerous advice?

Just because Google picks up a tag that says an image is available for reuse does not mean it really is available. Even big G says so. Use at your own risk, which could be considerable.

Don't believe me? Try following this advice and searching for Mickey Mouse. Grab an image and use it. Then come back and ask what to do with the DMCA notice, C&D notice and cancellation of your hosting account - if you're lucky and don't get a bill for use of the image.

Oh, and "Google said it was okay" is not a successful defense.

Great question. I guess we just need to keep doing what we do.

Straight from Google's FAQ page ---> Get Permission from the Image Owner, which is typically first person that posted the image to the web!

Beware of using Google images - even ones they claim can be used for commercial purposes!

I have believed in the past that Google images is a safe alternative for anyone's use IF you used the Google advanced search feature and filtered your results to show only "free to use, share or modify, even commercially."

However, upon digging further into Google's explanations and fine print that comes after their search function filtering, you will find the following warning:
"If you find content with the wrong usage rights in the search results, let us know by reporting them in the help forum."
To make matters even worse, at the very bottom of their on-page narrative, in a section called "Find Content to Reuse," Google explains:
"Before reusing content that you've found, you should verify that its license is legitimate and check the exact terms of reuse stated in the license. For example, most licenses require that you give credit to the image creator when reusing an image. Google has no way of knowing whether the license is legitimate, so we aren't making any representation that the content is actually or lawfully licensed." (emphasis my own)
So even though you take Google at it's word and filter your search to show only "free to use, share or modify, even commercially" . . . Google weasles its way out of any claim that the image "is actually or lawfully licensed."

    WOW, you are right.

Ive been using Google Images free for use images for years without problems.

I confirmed what Steve said, here is the source: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/29508?hl=en

So you CAN use google free for use images but you gotta double check with the poster.

its better to just pay for it. or you can check out this resource provided above:

There are a number of resources for cc0 (Creative Commons Zero) images so just do some web searches to find blog posts/articles that compile these lists. Pixabay is my favorite resource & I noticed that several other cc0 sites add their images to the Pixabay database.

Again - cc0 images is what you are looking for & don't trust the Google image search filter results as being accurate.

you can get images for about 1 dollar each at deposit photos there are other photo sites with similar prices. You can also get some software One is Printmaster and another is Printartist, both of these are under $40.00 and come with thousands of clip-art elements, images and fonts you can use to create unique images. This is great for social media as well as just livening up boring stock images.

People who keep giving this kind of advice will be the same ones who post on here in a panic because someone finally did sue them for copyright infringement. But no one will be able to help them because it'll be too late.

Here's the story of one website that got slapped with an $8000 lawsuit after using a photo from Google images. They ended up settling for $3000. It should be noted that they were sued after they took the offending image down. Once a person is caught, they're at the mercy of the copyright holder.

well if someone cannot negotiate with these people, maybe they should not be in business at all. I suggest a career in law, they will be so much more happy.

Look i have one good friend that is an attorney, and he is so good, all those political correct wannabe judges always loose the case, or at least settle as fast as possible because they cannot stand his counter attacks for too long.

My posts aren't long enough to use more than one image, but are you saying you aren't allowed to use more than one image based on their T&Cs?

      Thanks

I have quite a large YouTube channel and I create all my own custom thumbnails. People regularly take (aka steal) them from Google images and use them on their own videos.

Consequently I flag their videos for copyright infringement and get their channels TERMINATED. Yes that's right, banned for life from ever making YouTube videos again because they used images from Google images that they don't own the copyright to or have permission from the copyright holder. This happens every week. Don't think that there's no risk or consequences involved.

I sort of get it, you work hard, and those a-holes take advantage of that and
      go for the freeloader ride.

me myself never saw copyright troubles as a thing to be concerned about,
the first time someone copied me was already in the late 80's. Some clever
guy with a photographic memory copied one of my best silver-earring designs
      and sold it world-wide.

I saw copy in a store in Auckland, NZ. I laughed a lot and felt honored that
the market leader at the time got my vibes and made a hit out of it. Look, its
give and take, without him i would not be the guy i'm today.

On my island 1 time (yes one time) they gave shit about copyright laws, thats when Bill Gates came to town and complained about lost profits because those idiot pirates. Well what happened was, all illegal copies got busted, and they all sobered up.

These days nobody gives a flying foog-fee about American laws, those guys they try to dominate the world, thats why they lost image value and we count them as 3rd world country. Not even local law enforcement respects them,
we sent them back home, then they get blacklisted and they never enter the
      country again.

Look it's easy. I'm a musician, if someone copies me, I know he gets it, I met
a like minded person. I dont give a fu##ing shit if he gets rich on it or not.

I already got a life, and its build on freely receive and freely give

not on scarcity and rules or the law

sorry to say, most guys here are too young to get it, but maybe you can

It's kinda ironic you're bashing the US when the link in your signature line is a .us top level domain.

Just a word of advice, you might want to be careful about insulting entire groups of people on this forum, or in general. I'm guessing you put a link in your signature because you want people to click on it and sign up, buy, etc. But given some of things you've said, I'd probably just go elsewhere.

John, I’m pretty sure it’s a vampire horse that will keep on getting up and sucking the blood out of unsuspecting folk until someone stakes it. And it’s probably one of those sparkly vampires too LOL

Like some of the others have said, I use pixabay.com. But I still also check out Freeimages.com (used to be sxc.hu) and Deviantart.com. On both sites, though, you have to check the license requirements as some require attribution, while others don’t. But, to be perfectly honest, I have no problem providing attribution because it’s only fair and respectful. If I get to use their work for free, I don’t see why I should have a problem with giving them credit.

Dreamstime.com also has a free images section, though it’s relatively sparse. But sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can find what you need.

You might want to read the rules before you post any more of those "see my sig" promotions. It's a good way to lose your sig altogether, or even get banned if someone gets too aggressive.

You're new here. At least, your account is. I get that you might have been trying to help the OP and yourself at the same time. But if "see my sig" posts were allowed, this forum would quickly resemble one of those "post your ad" Facebook groups.

    Thanks
You need only original content including images in order to gain traction, which is the most common cause that people fail online miserably. Once an image is posted its simply of no use. Solution? either take pics yourself or if you got good quality videos, you can extract pics from them. it will be original. Do not seek out for free content.

Don't put the same images as it is because it's considered as spam. You have to modify according to your needs by using Photoshop, illustrator, etc.
