How to Show Preview Of EBook Safely?

Hey guys,
Im changing up my sales page on one of my niche sites. As part of this change I would like to allow my visitors to "preview" my ebook. Ideally Id like to have them click on the graphical representation of the book itself and open up a new window showing a preview.

Obviously I want to protect the contents and dont want to give too much away, but would like them to get a better "feel" for whats inside.

Ive never tried anything like this before. Any suggestions on how this can be done effectively?

Cheers,
John

We just have a "cut down" version of the PDF , so it basically has some of the content but not all with teasers where appropriate.

When they visit a page in the e-book that is not allowed it simply redirects them with some pre-sell to purchase the entire package.

      Thanks Simon,
Ive just googled "ebook preview" and "preview ebook" and found this post! :p Not much else though.

Im thinking the shortened version of the ebook itself might be the best option. But the question is ...

What do I show and how much?

Can't really help you with the "how much and what part" as that's unique to your individual product , but I would obviously try and give them something interesting that shows you know your topic.

As in all these things, essentially showing them the principle but without showing them exactly how is the order of the day otherwise you've weakened the value of the product.

If you're delivering the product via PDF, I would guess (don't quote me) that you can lock down specific pages using the full version of Adobe. If your converting into an .exe file you can definately get s/w to allow only limited viewing but all in all, I just think a "free trial version" of the book is easier.

But that's just what worked for us.

    Thanks again Simon,
Im using just the free reader I believe, not the full version. I may look into that. For the time being I might simply provide a "lite" version.

Still open to other suggestions though.

How about copying the first few chapters of your ebook into another file and offer it as a teaser copy.

Don't forget to add a link to buy the whole thing at the last page of your short offering

I just did something like this for about 5 of my products...

I set up an autoresponder list (for each product) so they get the first 5-10 pages (these are CONTENT pages, btw, not fluff) and 10 days of related tips... I send out a total of 11 emails and in addition to the tip each day, I can remind them to DL the sample, look at the product, etc...

Needless to say, the last page of the sample also has purchasing info. ;-)

Here's an ebook compiler that does what you want ...
but note that the ebook created is not in pdf form ..

      Hi John,

EbookGold is supposed to be very good, if you are happy to have your ebook in .exe format. They can click from the preview book to go and pay, and get a registration code to read the whole thing. Best product out there according to my research, and it is low price too.

But maybe having a shorter free version of the pdf might work better for you, as Simon suggested. It's a simpler solution ...
