The Art of Blog Commenting? Please Help.

If you look at the backlinks of .. ehm.. certain well-known high-search-engine ranking warriors, you'll notice that their highest PR links are always BLOG COMMENTS.

I want to become good at blog commenting.

However, I dont know the art.

Whenever I hit post, the screen goes blank, it says DISCARDED, or it re-loads but the post never shows up, or it says that it appears to be spam.

I realize they probably have to be monitored, etc.

But c'mon. If you look up the list, EVERYONE is posting backlinks. So -- that means my links should get up there, right?

What I need to know is the INS AND OUTS, the down and dirty secrets to blog commenting. Please, state yours

My partner and I run a blog which gets a tonne of comments, and from that point of view my best advice is, don't be an obvious self promoter. From our point of view, it gets very frustrating when people post comments that are clearly self promoting, when they could take up one of our paid advertising spots. Obvious self promoting comments get the can.

If someone makes a comment that is thoughtful, sincere, and properly in context with the article though, it gets approved along with the authors link. No problem

I really think the key is to contribute something to the person's site. You are essentially getting free advertising from them, so try to give something back beforehand and it will go a long way.

    Hey Oilman,

The best way I know of to get good results from blog commenting is to:
    • When you put your info in to comment, put your link there too
    • Only post on blogs that relate to your site
    • Read the post by the OP, and then write a comment that is about the OPs post - in other words, give them some content and "be believeable"!
    • Stay away from spammy comments
    • Don't use automated comment tools - people are learning or finding ways to block these comments and call them spam.

This should do for starters ...

    Yes
I dont want to be a blatent evil spammer.
But some of these comments are clearly just slapped on there.
Yes, they make sense, but then they have a clear, unreleated backlink keyword phrase, slapped right on there

My question is, why and how are they approved?

And when I post, the page reloads and my comment is not there. Does this mean its in the review process?

Effective blog commenting is an art form. I have lists of hundreds of blogs that all give me a green light to post on them with a link whenever I want now. I got them by doing the following.

      1. Compiling a huge list of blogs
      2. Posting good, lengthy comments on them with no links etc
      3. Wait for a week and post another comment - no link
      4. Usually now my IP is whitelisted
      5. Post with my link, come back a week later and link to another site, etc, etc

It's just like anything else, you have to build "trust". Blog owners are very aware that people are going to try and spam them. So, to circumvent their suspicious nature, you play by their rules and add some value to their site, in turn they will normally let your comments through a couple of times. After that, it is pretty much automatic as long as you are not being a moron and spamming links in the comments.

You can usually outsource the process and get a decent size list of blogs for about $80 in any given niche.

If I post on a PR 7 blog, and the actual posting-page doesn't have any PR, does the PR usually "leak" down to the pages after its been up for some time?

I guess the important thing is.. DON'T post the same, generic comments on lots of blogs and posts. You have to post something of meaning to the blog post, especially something helpful.

Try and add to the value of the blogpost.. although the better the original post is, the harder this will be to do. This has more chance of your comment being noticed!

      Actually, not always...

If I automate it with software, I can get a message like the following one to stick all day long:

Wow, it's pretty rare to see someone put things into perspective the way you just did. I wish that other bloggers and people that post content to the web would take a page from your book! Do you have any other sites that I could visit or could you possibly make a recommendation as to where I might be able to find some more information? Either way, thanks for an excellent resource and I look
forward to being a repeat reader!
