Use Tiny URL To Cloak Your Email Address on Craigslist

I always see people going crazy about getting gmail accounts for their CL adventures.

I have been using the following trick for a long time now and it works 100 in CL to both hotlink my ad to my email address and to receive emails from a ton of CL people to 1 email address.

I just tell them to click the tiny url link on the ad so the email can come to my phone since my work blocks craigslist.

Steps are easy:

1. Go to tiny url
TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL

2. "cloak" your email address as such:
mailto:You@Email.com

3. Now your email address is a tiny url link like so:
Email Bill Gates

How well does this work for you? Do you think anyone would find it annoying that it brings the email up in Outlook/Windows Mail?

If I am running an ad that I rather have them email me for the links etc and to make it easier I use my tiny url trick to link the ad to my email address, thus a simple click opens their email client.

It has worked really good for me.

You're welcome John. The beauty of this is that you can link multiple ads to 1 email address.

      Thank you for the information.

TinyURLs (or similar sites) seem like the way to go, but if you search Google for people who use TinyURLs on Craigslist, there are people that say CL blocks them.

Since I just joined I can't post links to the sites, but you can search Google for "craigslist block tinyurl".

Anyway, could you provide your own experience(s) or a PM link for an existing CL ad?

I have enjoyed tremendous success (IMO) for apartment rentals, but CL has dropped the "ban hammer" on me and I'm looking for alternatives.

      Thank you.

Not sure how you are able to do this because tinyurl is blocked by craigslist. There are lot of other small similar providers who are not blocked though.
