What To Do When PayPal Closes Your Account??

Hi everyone,

For some reason, for the past few days my PayPal account has been limited. When emailing them back, they said they need more information on certain payment transactions so I gave them that information.

This morning I logged into my account and I saw a message saying that they decided to close my account and they're not doing service with me anymore. I called PayPal, trying to get a reason why and they said it's because some of my transactions were high risk and I'm going to have to find another payment processor.

I have three businesses that I run using PayPal and i have had that account for two years, so I'm not sure why they decided to close my account all of a sudden. I don't know what I'm going to do now. Do you guys have any advice?

You can open a 2checkout account and accept paypal indirectly. Your buyers will be able to choose to pay with their card or with paypal. If they choose paypal the money goes to 2checkout and then from 2CO to you

That is something that I was not aware of.

I'm never heard of 2checkout, but I'll def look into it. Thanks. One of my businesses is with Ebay and I'm wondering if I should stop using Ebay since its integrated with PayPal. I should've known this was going to happen sooner or later.

EBay and PayPal are now separate companies. Earlier today I was looking to see if they had other options besides PayPal to accept payments because I have had problems with PayPal in the past. If you have a merchant account you can connect that to your eBay account and accept payments directly to your merchant account.
      Hope this helps you!

Maybe she knew this would happen sooner or later because of the bad reputation of PayPal.

The only bad reputation paypal has is with those that violate the Terms of Service and then get their account frozen or banned. For those that use the service legitimately they have a great reputation

Agree a little here - I hope I am not being unfair...

Just out of interest what transaction/products were they and at what price? Is it a banned niche?

What to do when Paypal closes your account? - cry. Then pick up the pieces.
Use another processor like 2CO as mentioned above.

2CO is a payment processor from Ohio. In that business for years.

If you sell on Ebay that's a bigger problem, because everyone pays with Paypal on Ebay and 2checkout is not an option there.

Thanks for your advice guys, I will do some research to see which merchants work with Ebay. If that doesn't work, then I'll consider getting my own store such as Shopify. It's not that I was doing something wrong, but I heard that PayPal sometimes limits or closes your account even if you've been with them for years. I still really don't understand why they do it.

I must say that your story gives me the creeps.

Paypal can close an account and not give you an explanation?

There is no way to argue with them and understand what's wrong? There must be a misunderstanding?

You might look into using Stripe.

Lots of marketers are using it successfully and several affiliate networks allow for easy integration. I know Warrior Plus and JVZoo allow for it's use and I'm sure many others do also.

The money is deposited directly into your checking account from your Stripe account. I believe you can set up automatic transfers for once a week or maybe even more frequently.

What's more, there are several plugins that make it very simple for you to collect payments using Stripe if you are running any kind of an eCommerce business using WordPress.

As for eBay, I don't know if they allow it, but chances are they might. If they don't now they probably will in the very near future.

Also, before anyone starts bashing PayPal, let's remember that we don't have any details as to why they decided to do what they did. Contrary to what many people on this forum (and others) seem to believe, they do not just close accounts without reason. I've been using them for 11 years and always found them to be a professional company with great customer service. Anytime I have had a problem they have always been super helpful and most of the time have been able to rectify the issue over the phone in minutes.

That said, anything can happen and sometimes mistakes can be made. The bottom line is that it's done and so now the OP must find an alternate method to collect payment. This is not the end of the world by any means because there are other ways to do it.

Also, I believe Authorize.Net allows for customers to pay through eBay, so make sure to check them out.

      .
In the niche of international dating, for example, and in many other niches, several affiliates programs pay only and exclusively with PayPal. So it is not enough to find another payment processor. We must also find another affiliate program... which can be problematic.

There are some reasons why pay pal closed your account, if you are using this account with your business, they might have notice huge amount of transfer from a a place or someone, or a company that you dealt with that is red flag on their end, with that very reason they will not really disclosed this information, backtracked your transaction and see who are those who made transfer from the indecent that this issue happened.

Thanks again for the advice everyone. I guess this kind of caught me off guard, especially since I've been using the same account for over 3 years. I have businesses using Ebay and Fiverr and they both use Paypal as the primary processor, but now I have a few alternatives I can look into. I only sell products on Ebay that are in the home and garden niche, so I'm not selling anything high risk like electronics. I'll definitely consider using Stripe or 2CO, but all I can do is move on from here.

The key is in the words they used - "high risk".

PP and some online transactions are used for things like drug trafficking, weapons sales and money laundering. Given the events of the last couple of years, they're super sensitive to that kind of thing.

Did you have any kind of unusual activity, like higher than normal volume or purchase size? That can raise a red flag. Many marketers have had accounts limited or frozen after successful product launches when PP sees a sudden spike in activity.

All is not lost. Before you abandon PP altogether, pick up the phone and call them. Talk to someone who actually knows their stuff. You may have been the victim of an overzealous auditor, and could possible get your account restored.

As for getting paid, you could open a personal account for receiving deposits and purchasing things like hosting or whatever. I have both business and personal accounts (you're allowed one of each). I rarely use the personal account, but I keep it as a backup just in case.

Do you have any balance on your account? You need to provide the information which the authority wanted to verification. There are some people who use the paypal with wrong information. There is a Money Laundering law all over the word, so the Online money transaction company;s authority verify your details. In this case if one are not able to provide the necessary information, his balance may forfeiture & his account may close. So it is very important to keep your account up to date. Thanks a lot.

If you were using Paypal for any revshares or HYIPs Paypal will close you down very quickly. That's why most of them dont accept Paypal anymore. Best to stay away from them. They also get upset if you have a high level of refunds, or some very large transactions from high risk locations like China, Vietnam or Philippines (no offense intended to residents of those countries)
I suspect you could always open another Paypal account (new email & bank account) if you really needed it for Ebay. Everything else should be able to be handled with another processor.
