This is my dating VSL: Secret Seduction System

The VSL returns well over a dollar a click so I know it converts.

But I know it can do better. Because when I look over the stats on Wistia - I see MASSIVE drop in viewings in the first 2 minutes... and I don't know why.

I personally can't see any conversion killers in the first 2 minutes so just wanted to see if anyone can spot any anything I may have missed?

Thanks

I paused it at the 7 second mark because the voice was so annoying. Went back and watched the first two minutes.

    A few observations:

    - When I saw the video was 23 minutes long I thought I cant take anymore of this.
    - the part of the video I watched (2 minutes) didn't capture my attention or seem to go anywhere (but to be honest, I'm not interested in the topic)
    - I think it'd be much more convincing if you used images of yourself, or the same guy instead of stock photos.

I stopped to watch the video after about five minutes.

So any guy, even if he is short, very ugly and very poor can seduce the prettiest girls in town? Wow!

If I understand well, this is the erotic version of the film "The Secret" wich teaches everyone how to become a millionaire?

I just can not believe this sale's speech. I'm too old to believe in fairy tales. Sorry.

Ok, your salespage is not bad. The exit pop works great.

I would try having the 'buy now' or 'get me access' button pop up below the video after say 20 seconds or so. This gives viewers who don't want to watch your whole video the option to proceed. Then I would have the exit pop repeated on this next page too.

Some people, myself included, don't like a long video that can't be bypassed. I'm too impatient. So you don't want to loose these people by forcing them to watch more than 30 seconds if they don't want too.

Also, I have hundreds of videos on Youtube and self hosted on AWS. I've noticed about a 50% drop rate for many of my videos around the 1 minute mark. And I think this is probably pretty typical for a lot of marketers. So if you can 'get to the point' faster, or give the option to bypass the video to see the offer, then I think you will capture more buyers.

      Hey Jeff,

You made some pretty good and valid points which I have taken all on board. Totally makes sense.

      Thank you.

Quite frankly, and maybe this is due to my type I don't know but I know for sure that this type of hype will draw some "types" of dudes, but the very reason is that I've found NO credibility at all in your sayings... and that is my conclusion within less than thirty seconds. And, well, I should add because I also agree that the voice sounds "annoying" to my ears as well, and it's not the accent it's the tone, the grain of the voice.... Some have it, and some don't and this is very likely why there are some folks paid very HIGH prices just for their voice, the sound of their voice!

Now, you asked for it and there you have it, from my own humble opinion, but please don't take a thing personally, it's not about you I don't even know you.

You try, you do, you take action and that is already great and more remarkable than what the majority does, and you ask for help and advice, and I help.

The British accent is strong. For a French Canadian like me, it's a little disconcerting. Maybe I'm wrong, but when I listen to the BBC, it seems that their accent is less strong, as their accent is more international?

If I were you, I would make a website with two sales channels:

    1) with text, with a traditional landing page for those like me who prefer to read rather than watch long videos. (It's good for SEO as well)

    2) with the video on the website for those who prefer videos.

And by strategically placing calls to action around the site.

Length. I think that's the thing. Maybe mentioning the part that the video won't be up forever sooner would help keep people.

you're going to see a big drop-off normally on ANY vsl in the first few minutes... looks like falling off a cliff.... thats normal... and another one when you announce the price... thats normal too.

I thought it was pretty good and mildly interesting until you went after the teen market and you lost credibility with other demographics

I know you were going after a demographic that likes some of that kind of talk but just explaining to you why you probably get a drop off after a few minutes. You can appeal to one demographic without ruining your credibility in another.

Once you get into the video you start sounding like a pimp rather than someone who understands the female mind enough to attract women like you say you do. Anyone thats dated knows there is no magical trick (besides going the Cosby route) especially without understanding women

You don't need to beat people over the head with getting sex. Its pretty much implied. Does it gets kicks and giggles from a teen very early twenties crowd? sure but like I said the more experienced single/dater just takes away credibility so I couldn't bother watching further.

this niche is filled with people making claims - about two minutes in you started sounding like all the rest so why bother watching further?

I agree with Mike. A little more honesty and a little less hype, and focus on one demographic. Also, just from my personal observations, the voice in the video sounds way too excited. Just have the person talk like a normal person, like they're talking to a friend. I don't want a game show host telling me I can date hot girls.

Frankly, the sound is awful, and it's more than just your voice; your mic and your recording environment really work against you. (Sorry, man!!)

Here's a similar style VSL (for a different industry) that I recorded for a client; notice how the sound quality contributes to the sale:

      Hey David,

      Thanks for the honest feedback.

I was in two minds whether or not to get an American voice over and judging by the overall feedback I have been getting, it looks as though that might be the way forward.

      Thanks again - much appreciated

Fair enough, Steve. In my defense, I had provided that client with a far different presentation when we first started, and he kept insisting on the presentation that you see above.

I have had more than one client destroy perfectly good work. I get it

But my finding your VSL annoying just proves a couple of points: you can't sell everyone all of the time, and opinions are like a**holes - everyone has one

Exactly. The great thing is that I (successfully!) argued that I had to put in twice the work in order to meet his requirements, and thus should be paid twice as much.

Quite frankly, David's video annoyed me even worse than the OP's.

Over-exaggeration of pauses and inflections, unnatural over-emphasized transitions in tone and timbre.

      The VSLs that sell ME:
      • are on a subject I'm interested in
      • talk to me in my 'language' - meaning someone has done their homework on how their target demographic talks and thinks. I would click away from videos done in inner-city slang or with rap or hip-hop as background music, as I would with videos done in high-level intellectual style with classical music in the background
      • ones that address my specific problem in the first 10 seconds
      • are believable
      • have written copy so I don't have to listen to the whole damned thing, especially if the VSL has no controls. I make buying decisions pretty quickly usually and if that information isn't available, I'll leave
      • and more
The big take-aways from the above list are: #1, no matter how good you are at building a customer avatar there will always be people that you miss; #2, not everyone buys using the same criteria.

The ONLY ONLY way that you'll be able to increase your conversions on your VSL is to test everything. Change voice talent, change the script, change the buy button timing, change the VSL style - how about a female telling guys "you can date women like me if you just do these 4 simple things..."

If your target market is late 20-somethings or early 30-somethings that don't have a clue how to get women, talking about "babes" is not going to resonate with most of them.

Audio for VSLs usually needs to be recorded in a controlled environment like a sound booth or acoustic chamber than screens out all exterior noise sources, then have attention paid to it in post-processing to adjust timber and pitch.

What do other high-converting VSLs in this market do that yours doesn't? What is different about them?

And finally - maybe it's just your offer that sucks. There's always that.

Thanks for the profound advice Steve - I won't lie, some of the points you made hit home pretty hard!

Just to let you know that my target demographic is the 20 -27 age group, hence the occasional 'street lingo'.

I have taken everything you have said on board - particularly getting to the damn point within the first 10 seconds... and potentially using a female narrator. Now that could be interesting...

You mention or elude to a product really early which is a disconnect especially since you said their are no secrets... Which is also kind of ironic since your system is called 'Secret' Seduction System...

Also if you've ever studied any of Jon Benson's sales videos... never assume anything about your audience in your video. It's semi-disrespectful to the audience.
