Pokémon Go Ads - Are You Ready ???

Warriors,

Techcrunch, Money and Forbes along with a big list of other companies recently announced that Pokémon Go would be gearing up for Advertisers. Just curious... what does this mean for the game players? Will this ruin it? Will advertising be worthy of it's audience or will ads need to be targeted at other video games to be downloaded?

As the arms race for advertisers begins... it would be interesting to hear your feedback on this.

Cheers,

I think despite all the craze about Pokemon go, it's still too early in the day to tell how it will all go.

Many will sit by for a while to see how it goes before taking the plunge.

But at the same time, those who do take the plunge now will gain where others won't.

It will be hot for a few weeks, maybe a few months, and then it will die down

      Maybe you are right...

However, you can make money during the hot trend up to thousands of dollars.

People watched the Pokemon Cartoons on TV and those had advertisements (commercials). If the ads are not too intrusive, the game will survive, but the fad/popularity will die down. Then people will be looking for the next new shiny object.

Remarkably similar to the way things work with this forum. This thread being a prime example.

This Pokemon Go thing has been crazy lately, ALL people are talking about it - So it makes sense that Advertisers are searching for a way to monetise this trend.

I think I read somewhere that they were hacked so once they upgrade their server security they should be fine

This Pokemon Go hype has to be like one of those fad diets. Nobody will even mention it in about a month

My question is, "how long will this game be hyped for?". I downloaded it, got to like level 4, and got bored haha.

I have a suspicion that some businesses can do very well with geo-location ads. Things like pizza places, diners, grocery stores, clothing stores and, now that I think about it, pretty much any retailer could really cash in, especially if they run a special promotion that’s somehow tied in with the whole Pokemon franchise.

People are out and about and have their head stuck in the game. If a diner starts offering something like Pokemon Burgers or something like that (not sure how the licensing rights would work for something like that), and the ad pops up on a player’s phone while they’re in the vicinity, there’s a good chance they’ll be visiting that diner. Same for other retailers.

And I don’t think it’s going to die down as quickly as some might think. It offers a face-to-face social component that is quite lacking nowadays in society and for many people, being able to meet other folks through something they love is going to be a big draw. To be honest, I really think Pokemon Go is going to be ridiculously popular for a long time.

well, now that you got images of inside homes and apartments

In AR: you can have ads that compare what the target already has (an old bed) with a new and stylish one.

    copy:
Throw this hay stack away and lay down on this new WATER BED!

Surely this is a fad and it can't last too much longer.

While it is a great opportunity advertising-wise, surely it will be a flash in the pan..

    Well, here's hoping anyway.

Okay so I have to admit something...

    I am 24 (not a teenager!!) & I play Pokemon GO! haha...

Right now I have got that out of the way, I personally cannot see Ads appearing in the game. Users would see this more as a hinderance IMO and delay playing time (trying to exit out off ads would prove annoying!). Therefore if ads ever did show within the game I would expect users to decline.

Also I think the game would generate enough revenue without ever needing to introduce ads. There's a shop where you can buy virtual money which can be spend within the game. So really I dont see their ever being ads!!

So I actually am intigued by your post and I find it strange that there is a possibility of seeing ads!! Hmmmmmm...

I did hear that apparently Mcdonalds might be teaming up with the App. Now I can see something like this working. You would have to go to a Mcdonalds for certain freebies or to heal your Pokemon. Sort of like a CLEVER way to advertise within the App with it not actually seeming like advertising for the user.

I bought my kids Pokemon cards twenty years ago. Now at the ages of 27 and 24 they are playing Pokemon Go. You have to admit, for a "fad" it's having a good run

A lot of local businesses are taking advantage of the game.

I feel like it would be cool for businesses to be able to advertise their businesses alongside the lures they can use if their building is a "Pokestop".

I have had some actually crazy success with advertising in that aspect. Ironically my kids play. It's easy to do some serious advertising. You'd be surprised. It's definitely a fad that you can follow on. It won't last.

The hackers apparently have figured out how to monetize the game by offering a fake app that they use to push ads. Some have already apparently made millions, but they have a captive audience and don't have to pay for ads. My impression was that they haven't made much for the number of supposedly infected phones. Just saying.

Really? You have got to be kidding me... How is that going to play out as PKG rolls out with allowing advertisers in?

Wow - Can't believe that from the Hackers.

Mcdonalds and pokemon go have already discussed a partnership. Nintendo Niantic mcdonalds are very prominent names. They don't mess around and I'm pretty sure they have a long term strategy. As a previous user mentioned they can hoard loads of people in one location just by what's available in the AR. This can be used to gather players around a promotion, billboard, store etc etc...

The first thing I though of when Pokemon first hit the scene was when they were going to begin monetizing with it. I remember Facebook waited like seven years to grow mega huge before adding ads on any level. Not sure how big and how long Pokemon will continue to grow like this, but my guess is that they are going to integrate the need to feed on some magic beans or whatever to get the leg up on all your competitors...and will charge a premium to do so
