  • They sold a piece of it anyway. The creators who sold it to eBay actually wanted to buy it back, but that obviously was never going to happen.

So that was only PART of it they sold?

    Do you know how much?

Because they originally bought it for $4.1 billion, so you wouldn't want to sell too much of it for 1.9, unless they need some quick cash

    cheers

"eBay said today it has reached an agreement to sell a 65% stake in Luxembourg-based Skype to a consortium of investors including the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) for $1.9 billion."

      From the article.

Wow, so they actually made a loss on the Skype venture.

Ah well, what's half a billion or so between friends?

I think they paid well over the odds and have been lucky to offload part of it again for an inflated price.

The intellectual property lawsuit that they're likely to lose has a lot to do with it.

Seems the guys who sold it to Ebay didn't actually license one of the core VOIP components along with the operating company, and in Ebay's haste to pen the deal they overlooked that little fact.

A big part why eBay sold Skype is the simple fact that the synergies were just not there. The eBay plan as far as acquiring other businesses in the past (Paypal, BillMeLater, half.com) has for the most part always been how each company can benefit each other.

Skype just never really panned out.

I don't care who owns Skype as long as it provides reliable and very cheap VoIP that's about as user friendly as it gets. I dig it. Don't change it. I'll keep paying.

I like Skype and use it frequently

Big business is just getting use to adding more zeros to a check

It was $1,90 with just adding nine zeros it become big money

I really hope that they can keep the service the at same level or better

Just my 2-cents with no added zeros
