Change the php file as i told you
Upload the theme
Login
Smile

This comes just in time as I was about to make a referral site to promote a Clickbank product, and I am having so much trouble with the current WP site that I am having, I was going to just do an HTML site and give up all the benefits of the WP plugins and SEO. Now I will definitely give this a try and see if I can get it to work for me. Thank you so much.

EDIT: I have uploaded new WP Theme (with no errors!)

Thanks goes to Fernando for quickly finding out an error and fixing it
way before I had even got a chance to realize there was an error.

Most hosts do not like when there is a space at the end of the closing
php ?> tag and this is what was the causing the problem. I quickly
fixed the files - so you can redownload if you want.

Here's some quick helpful information on how this WP theme works..

First this theme is using Wordpress Options!

It's actually very easy to add an input field into the admin
theme settings and use that variable however you want
in the theme.

Look in your functions.php page and you'll see a bunch of fields
that look like this:

You'll notice the value is <?php echo get_option('intro-title'); ?>
This is basically "echoing" or displaying the variable for "intro-title"

You can add your own options by just adding a new field:

<?php echo get_option('NEWVARIABLE'); ?>

and changing the variable name. Make sure to add your new field name to the hidden field that says:

  <input type="hidden" value="bgcolor, intro-title, headline, subheadline, buynow, NEWVARIABLE" name="page_options">

Now that you have a new Wordpress Option field you can use
that piece of text however you want inside the actual theme itself.

For example, I used it to put in the URL for the payment link
and the URL is automatically posted as the link for the Buy Now graphic:

And one final little note, in the index.php file you will notice
that it is using WP Query Post function to grab the post that
is in the "salesletter" category and to only show one post:

You can edit the way wordpress displays the content by adding
in different values here. Check out the WP Codex for more help here:

Yup! May be a bit more technical than some of you care for,
but there are others who can use this information to start
fiddling around with Wordpress to create some cool things.

I don't know if it is just me, as I have had a lot of problems with WordPress. But I can't even get anything to show up in this theme. I have done test posts and view post and I see the blank theme. O well, I thought this was going to be the answer to my problem. I guess not. I am not sure that I like WordPress at all. I don't know why so many people rave about it. I am starting to think it is more trouble than it is worth.

Gosh, I should say it is late there. I am open to learning if you have time. I am just getting so frustrated with this WordPress thing though. I must be getting stupider with age. I used to flip six sites a week eight years ago on eBay, when you could still make a decent amount for doing it. Now I seem to struggle over the simplest of things. I got away from it for a long time, and things have changed a lot too.

No I didn't. I am not even sure how to do that. My WP knowledge is limited to be generous. But I will go in the admin area and see what I can figure out.

That's interesting, Tim. When you save new values to the WP Theme Options
under the Appearance tab do they stay there after the page reloads?

You can also try to change the index.php page from:

(Under the Appearance Tab is a Editor link that allows you
to edit the wordpress theme files. Choose the index.php file to edit)

to just this: (without the category name just show the newest post)

This should fix the problem. After this small hump, Wordpress becomes
alot easier to write sales copy with. You can use the text editor to
format text and even go full screen. I prefer writing with this instead
of inside a HTML text editor

@Fernando, that shows up in the black area at the top.

@Wynter, editing the theme is way over my head and not something I am comfortable with. I understand simple HTML for the most part, but that is about the extent of my abilities.

I appreciate your help folks, but this is over my head. I think I will just go and use a plain HTML site and forget this WordPress thing.

@Fernando, I understand the reasoning for the text to show up there. That is like a headline in the top graphic. It is very logical to me why it does that. It was all a new experience for me, and way out of my area of knowledge. I was getting into areas that I was just not comfortable with. The PHP code these themes are done in looks like gibberish to me. I just don't understand it, I may have to try and learn it some day, but I am not ready to do it now.

I have actually tried this out myself and the only way to make
this happen is by creating a Wordpress Plugin. I did some testing
(first time coding a plugin) but I did manage to get one single
post to show up as a salesletter.

However, it only seemed to work on a few themes as all themes
are coded differently so it needs much work. But since I am getting
a great response from this.

I will provide a free download for the test plugin and we can all
test it out together and try and make it super helpful. I do think
it would be good to turn only one blog post into a salesletter,
without compromising the entire blog.

I'll throw the plugin up on the WF soon

Hello, Wynter what a great contribution. I would like to say thanks. I too am interested in the plugin that would allow a single post to use the salesletter theme while other parts of my blog retain the normal theme.

Any news or further developments? You indicated several weeks back that you would offer it in its current state for others to play around with.

Wow, it sure is nice to come back to this thread to see all the positive replys!

I did mention that I was working on a plugin to do this without installing a full theme, which effectively stops wordpress from being a blogging system. I tried this and thought I had a working plugin, but then I tested it on a few themes and each had their own unique problems to fix.

So, that didn't work and I didn't want to release a plugin that didn't work on popular premium themes. However, I am sure everyone knows about Jason Keiths work into WP salesletters.

He has a great solution (one that I didn't even think of myself) to use Page Templates, so that one can make a template for a page like the About page for example.

Normally, the page templates are used to expand Wordpress to make a CMS (content management system, etc) I have been working with this and it's so much more effective than using a theme.

So, Jason Keith (if you're reading) thanks for the heads up on the page templates !

I'll release a free template so everyone knows how they work differently and then buy his WSO and enjoy the ease of use.

And of course I am working on a huge package on this very subject, but I'll let my resellers let you know about it, hehe!
