Removing Video Controls in 2016

I know that a few years ago anyway, some said that removing the ability to fast forward or rewind a video improved conversions on a landing page video.

I know that bugs a lot of people, but so do pop-ups, and yet they still work.

Anyone have idea about removing video controls in 2016 and whether that is still supposed to work or not?

I don't know. I know it really bugs me when there are no controls. So I always give people the option in my videos.

I know it has stopped me from buying a product. I'll watch the video and then later come back to watch a specific section again before I decide to buy. Now keep in mind I am in buying mode on the second visit.

Hmmm... Can't skip to the section I want to review again? Screw this. I'm off to the search engines to find a competing product I can actually study and get the info I need to make my final buying decision.

This is just me. Not sure if others feel the same or not.

If you aren't going to give me controls, at least tell me how long the damn video is. If I start a no-controls video and the presenter goes more than 2-3 minutes, I click out.

I know there are a lot of Eben Pagan fans out there, so you folks might want to cover your eyes for this next bit...

In his first pre-launch video for his latest deal, he promised a bit of information. The video had no controls. Turned out to be a 29 minute video, and Pagan addressed the point of the video at the 26 minute mark. For about a minute and a half. The rest of the time was a self-congratulatory story about his own rags to riches story.

Guess what? I have no idea what was on videos 2 and 3.

I know it's supposed to be an effective marketing technique, but it infuriates me...

If your offer is so weak that you have to trick and force me into watching your entire video, chances are that you don't respect me enough to give me the option.

Guess what? I don't respect you enough to give you the sale.
