How do the search engines feel about Joomla?

I'm totally unfamiliar with it.

A friend of mine used it to build his site and I'm not sure how it will affect his SEO.

  • Joomla per se is OK.

Drupal is better straight out of the "box".

The important thing is keyword research and using the relavant keywords in your title tags, headings and the rest of the content, without going overboard.

Then there are obviously the off-page factors such as links-in to the site containing pertinent keywords as well as a good domain name.

Far more to it than this, but these are some of the important seo basics, which are more important than the html code Joomla spits out.

  • The latest Joomla is better than the last version. There is I believe now a couple of decent plugins to make it more SEO friendly than it was.

Of course, straight out of the box you can't really beat wordpress...
  • Joomla is fine with Google & SEO just as much as Wordpress is!

    Joomla 1.5.x rocks!

  • More people have moved away from Drupal to Joomla. Spend some time on the Joomla forum and you will thread after thread of reasons why.

Joomla is totally SEO friendly, in the earlier version you had to use an extension to make the urls SE friendly but now in 1.5 you can have it do whatever you want. Though i use a number of addtional free extensions to get the full drive out of it
