I'm sorry I can't give you better advice on this. But it seems, there is no better answer to your question.

Have you tried Reddit. It is quite a famous site, gives no follow backlinks so is not good for improving web authority but is quite good for getting traffic. You can get hundreds of visitors from a single link and the more you post more your account authority increases.It is good for traffic however it imposes many restriction, irrelevant post gives negative effect to your account and new account are very often banned or restricted.

For social media, it should be Facebook, Twitter, Google+.

If you're not using YouTube make sure you start pumping out some videos. Make quick little informational videos helping people with problems or questions they may have in your niche.

And in the description link back to your squeeze page or website.

Do you have money to invest in a domain and hosting? $14 a year or so for domain, $10 to $20 a month for hosting.

If so, building your own self-hosted Wordpress blog is a fabulous way to build your authority.

Do not build a blog on free platforms because even if you share good content, any trusted blogger will not promote you or link to you, and Google doesn't give much love at all to free blogging sites.

Other than this, dive into:

- social media marketing (ask questions and share answers, and learn, on twitter, Facebook, G Plus and LinkedIn....especially on Facebook Groups and G Plus Communities)

- post comments to relevant, authority blogs. Just link in to your twitter handle page if you don't go the blogging route. This drives steady, targeted traffic to your twitter site. No business sites, that's spam.

- forum marketing rocks. Read this forum, take notes, study, learn, and share the knowledge you've learned in your voice. This is how all of us did it because none of us had internet marketing experience before we became internet marketers.

Note; "free" traffic does not cost you money. But it does cost you time, energy, a willingness to learn, to study, to hone your skills and to patiently create value and build bonds with influencers in your niche to grow your business online.

This cost is what you *give* to *get* the traffic. Especially if you have little cash in the moment to invest in a strategy.

But again, I strongly suggest scraping together your cash, using a credit card, or maybe working a part time job to squirrel away a few hundred bucks to buy a domain and hosting for a blog.

The couple of hundred bucks I spent 8 years ago - when I had little money, and could have made some logical sounding excuses - on a domain and hosting opened the doors for me online and offline to where I could travel the world for the past 5 years.

Use their free resources. Spend $5 or $10 on an eBook.

I think there are no concept about best free traffic source because it is up to you in your own business.
However, some traditional sources as FB, twitter, instagram, G+, etc sitll are valuable

You can opt-in to a whole plethora of safe-list email marketing sites for free (you are limited as a free member for the most part, but I know of people who have earned paid sales this way)

You can help from e-mail marketing and YouTube marketing to create genuine leads for your business. You can give description of your products in both methods. YouTube is most powerful method , because a lot of people watching video as per interests.

Beside the Forum & Social Media site, you can use the Relevant Blog commenting, Article submission & so on. You need to use the Do-follow link more & more than the No-follow link. The Do-follow link can increase the site Page rank & site traffic at the same time on the other hand the No-follow link will increase your site traffic only. Thanks for your advance.

YouTube is a great traffic source. Upload quality content and put link in the description and ask viewers to go to your offer.

You could use Pinterest and Instagram to drive traffic too - I get a lot of free traffic from these websites.

Your question is really too broad. What is your niche? ... What is it that you're trying to promote? ... What type type of traffic do you want to generate...conversion traffic...social traffic...just some traffic to boost your stats...what?? Heck, you can go to the nearest traffic exchange and get free traffic all day, but I don't know if this is the type of traffic you want. Would need more info and insight for me to provide additional guidance. Otherwise the sky is the limit!
