Non-SEO Link Wheel?

Hello everybody,

I bought a site on Flippa from a guy named Totol Hossain. He had 1000+ Uniques to the site from some weird traffic source, but it made me some money. Anyway, the traffic stopped, so I contacted him and asked where it was from in the first place. He said he got traffic from a "20+ Link Wheel." I have no clue what this means, because link wheels are SEO. I can assure you that there is not a page on this site that is ranked in google high enough for 1000+ uniques daily, so how does this link wheel send traffic?

  • Why did you buy it in the first place if you don't know what to do with it?

    • No, no, I know what to do with it. I'll just keep making money off of it! I'm just asking if anyone knows how he got that traffic from a link wheel when it isn't even ranked for any keywords.
  • Sounds like something fishy is going on here. Maybe he just manipulated the traffic and threw in a couple conversions just long enough for you to buy the snake oil that he's selling. Just a thought. This is definitely one of those things that make you go hmmm.

    • You could be right, but I also have MGID and AdSense on the site making money, so I will keep it going as long as I can. There are constant clicks on Ads.
  • "Link Wheel"

I haven't heard that term in years!

    Thanks for that...

Anyways, what is google analytics, google webmaster tools or wordpress jetpack saying about your traffic sources?

Surely any of those could tell you...

Install them now and maybe traces of that traffic will be available to view in a couple of weeks.

    Best of luck

    • I was just thinking the SAME thing. You don't really hear people talking about link wheels anymore. That's very "2010." Ha! It's certainly not the best SEO technique anymore, and wasn't even that good back when it was a popular thing to do.

Even if you're getting traffic from it now, I'd work on building more sustainable, stronger sources of traffic. Good quality content is key in this era of modern SEO

  • A link wheel is, for example when you have 6 sites: A B C D E F. A links to B, B links to C, C links to D, D links to E, E links to F, and F links to A completing the wheel. However, a link wheel is not a killer SEO tactic anymore. Better, go for,

    • Valuable Content on your site or blog
    • Submit Valuable Content to other sites or blogs
    • Build as many back links possible through Social Media, Forums, Comments, Press Releases, Content Syndication, Content Curation, and more.
