I didn't see this tonight, but I've seen the show several times.

Fox adds on-air tweets to `Fringe' reruns - Yahoo! News

Very interesting use of Twitter.

The tweets were from executive producers Jeff Pinkner (whose handle on Twitter is JPFringe) and J.H. Wyman (JWFringe), and cast members Peter Bishop (peterbishop2) and John Noble (labdad1).
Fox promoted the broadcast as "unprecedented" and "a broadcast first." However, there have been similar fusions of television and Twitter in the past several months. Most notably, Current TV, the user-driven TV network co-founded by Al Gore, scrolled tweets across the screen during its broadcast of President Barack Obama's inauguration.

Earley sees one notable difference.

"We did not just want to have a scroll across the bottom of the screen where hundreds of unidentified people were sending messages through," he said. "You're getting to interact with the talent."

I watch cops 2.0 on G4 a lot. They interact with the viewers by having them login to a chat room. They ask questions in the chat room related to the episode and show the questions and the answers people are giving during the show. Some of the replies are just hysterical.

They also will ask trivia questions related to the show for the viewers to guess too. Such as "How long did Officer so and so say he was on the force?" They'll show 4 answers on the screen and the answers start disappearing one by one until the right one is left.

They also show a retired detective's comments about certain topics the show is covering too. Remember all this is being done on the T.V. screen while the show is playing.

That really isn't that novel of an idea. Other than maybe people directly involved in the show commenting.
