Is a Keyword with 60k searches a month good enough for a Niche?

I found a keyword with 60k searches a month and i am planning to start a niche website around it.I am planning to get traffic only by optimising for that keyword.

My question is....Is the Traffic good enough to start a website around it?It it is not good enough what is the minimum limit one should use to select niches?

It's impossible to say without knowing what the niche is (there are factors other than numbers to consider). I make $5000+ from one particular niche though that has alot less than 60,000 searches (and my site only has 5 pages).

Is that 60,000 broad searches? Phrase? Exact?

Also, what's the competition like on Google's first page for your keyword?

There is no minimum limit. Everything depends on how you define "good enough". What is your goal? 1 buck a day? 100 bucks a day? Also, for which niche? You know, some niches are more profitable than others...

If you are going to use adwords and you are sure there are that many searches then you may do fine as long as its a buying keyword.

As far as SEO then you need to look at the number of competitors as well as do a little analysis on the top sites. If they are all authority type sites then it may be hard to rank on the front page which will keep you from getting any free traffic.

I personally look at a lot of different things when choosing a niche. The number of searches is normally the last thing I care about. I like to see around 50 searches a day minumum for a small niche site, but its not the be all. For example I have a couple of niches which get around 20 searches a day and I own the front page. This niche has been earning consistantly for over 2 years without me spending very much time on it.

Point is it all depends as every niche is different.

The Good thing is there are only 489,000 results for the keyword in Google.
There are not lot of authority site. There is a competitor's site sitting in First position with 500 backlinks.

Analyze the anchor text of the backlinks.

Does the competitors site with 500 backlinks focus heavily on those keywords? If not you may find it easier than you think to rank.

Be aware that google doesn't reveal the exact amount of backlinks to anyone, be it your competitors.

Just keep on consistently send in massive amount of backlinks, daily. in a month or two, the results will show

    ...That's a good point.

They don't have their domain name matching the Keyword.I have found the exact keyword matching domain-name with .org extension(That doesn't matter as far as i know)

And they have about 50% keywords optimised for my keyword.Hope this info helps.

    A few things to consider:

Nobody here can give you the answer to this, without knowing the keyword... and I am not suggesting that you reveal it here.

Also, if I see a keyword with 10 searches a month, I will start the content creation happening... you will never REALLY know how good a keyword is until you throw a page in front of it and see where the chips fall...

In other words.. don't ask around for justification, test that thing

    Peace

I agree with jay, test it out and see

But also look at the competition in adwords..Do you have any?....what are they selling?.......Nowadays anything can be sold online..

Sounds like decent-enough traffic to me. Be sure to check out the strength of your top 10 competition, and how many competing pages there are total, check the title competition, and also be sure that this is for sure a commercially viable niche market.

      Hope that helps!
      Best,

What does the number of competing sites have to do with anything? And why 30,000? There are usually around 10 websites on the first page. That is the only competition I worry about.
