Yes, these are trends. It's easy to spot them using "trend tools" at Google and other places.

The critical question is . . . "how are you going to use them to make money?"

It's easy to jump on a trend bandwagon as many people do - it's quite another thing to actually make money from what you do.

We don't get deeply involved in the Trend itself, so no product on PokeMon, but...

We do create pithy little "clickbait" like headlines for our RSS newsfeeds, Facebook, Twitter and other social media...which have proven to bring new and/or more eyeballs to the post, and stats show registrations go up and they have a lifetime value of lots of moolah.

Olympic events come and go...and combined with other 'temporary' events, give a good opportunity to "cash in" on the trend.

Example: "Trump wins Gold Medal at the Olympics..." did pretty well in the feeds.

But we don't waste time or money trying to ride the wave once it has crested, but try to ride the smaller waves for longer profits.

I'm sure there are better ways or bigger money ways, but they seem more risky and time is too valuable to chase a wave down and then try to ride it.

The trend is being incapable of making decisions because of poor planning.

Seriously, you just want random off the wall subjects for viral marketing?

    That's not a plan.

Trends are good for a short term boost, at the same time though - I like to play in areas that are "timeless"

    1) it is hard to monetize politics

    2) pokemon is not really in the news anymore, it seems to be fading away.

    3) Olympics are almost over
