I am hoping this inspires you

I have a feeling that this will be a long post...at least by my standards...but it won't disappoint you.

I am a software developer by profession, and personally do not know anybody who is in internet marketing world. All my friends/family work for other companies...and I didn't know any better either.

About 3 years ago I bought my domain name, about 18 months ago, I decied to write one application and put it on my site. It was for free...the idea was to give it away for free and eventually I would be able to make money off of advertisement or something. My target was to not even think about money for few years.

I kept on working on my software and made it as good as I could. It was reviewed by few big name sites like pcworld, cnet, etc....and I started to get some decent traffic. My friends used to tell me that I should start charging for it...but no...I wanted to keep it for free...and besides, who would buy it anyway? I have never been able to sell anything in my life.

In May I decided to put adsense on it. Made about 300 dollars that month...not bad I thought.

...and then something happened in mid of May.

I stumbled upon this forum somehow. Even opened the account (I can't remember why). I stuck around, kept on reading here...and made lot of posts too....asked questions....got really good answers/feedback. It made me realise that I should NOT be giving up my software for free.

I eventually took the big step and in mid of july started charging for it. Had no idea what would happen.

In August, I made about 4,000 dollars. Lot more then I could imagine.

I have also setup aweber account and since yesterday I have been collecting email addresses in that account. I now know that it is going to open up a whole new world. I had thousands of email addresses before thru my site but never did anything with them - this time they won't be wasted.

Last week, I was blocked from this forum because I was accused of wrting one sentence in my post which was considered spam. It never was my intention to spam. Visitors of this forum are not my target audiance. As far as I know, nobody from this forum has bought my application anyway. I am here to learn. Sometimes I get too excited and want people to do what I have done, and maybe that excitement makes me do things that people think is spam. I am still a software developer, and not a sales man.

Why am I writing all this? because I want to thank you guys. Really...thank you, especially her - View Profile: TinkerAndPo She is the one who lit the fire in mid of July when I decided to start charging for my software.


I am still a newbie....so my message to all the people who are new here....whatever these guys are saying....yes...all those things work. Just 4 months ago, I was making zero dollars. Now, I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
