Blogging Trends ...and People Like Perez Hilton making $450Kper Month

The popularity of Blogging has been steadily increasing in the last 10 years or so.

However , few barely make anything substantial from it.

Most Marketers in IM use it as ONE of many Tools in their arsenal to increase their Exposure and help establish their Brand as well as adding another stream of income to their Overall Profitability in their Chosen Niche

It's been a while since last I saw his numbers but I was surprised recently ran across his Earnings of $450K a month with his Celebrity Gossip Blog.

Last time I saw him on Cribs he was pretty a one man show in his Condo. But that was like 2008 and he was pulling in about $00K a year.

Wonder if he has to outsource now

Blogging of sorts is what I do.

It's my long term money maker. I run 3 sites in completely different niches that I have a keen interest it.

I'm going to say that it's possible to do that much revenue as a one man show. But, I would be surprised if that was the case.

He has a different style of blogging where hes NEW content driven. He has to have the newest dirt on people all the time.

What I do is really well put together posts twice per week on each site and promote them. Plus, build my lists and inform them of the new posts.

My posts are typically over 2K words for one post per week for each site and a post of 500 words or more for the other one. Many times it's over 2K words for both posts to a site.

So, his methods are short bit's of daily, juicy info on what a celebrity is up to. Mine is insanely valuable information but not as often.

I agree, few bloggers make any money at all and most quit.

People like Perez Hilton are few and far between.

  • Blogging is a pretty advanced strategy in my opinion because it kind of encompasses everything and you have to be good at a lot of stuff besides just writing to really make it work. I mostly just use blogging as a strategy to brand my business and connect with my list that I build through easier list building methods. I never had the patience to become an SEO expert, nor the passion to build a following around something entertaining. But using it as a small part of an overall marketing strategy has worked well for me.

a celebrity like perez hilton just needs cursory SEO,

because he is a source so people will naturally flock to his content...

It's not like joe-shomo writing a post about celebrity life, Joe has to put in a lot more work and he needs to be a savy marketer before he can start getting paid...

I sometimes see these realty show people on the net and wonder if they had the wisdom to set up a site about themselves with everything in place before they started their realty tv show..

      All that free exposure!

Yeah I remember back in 2008 when they did an interview with him when I was living in LA. He said typically he is at Blogging about 15 to 18 hours a day. EVERYDAY.

He was pretty much consumed by it.

I could very well be wrong but I have a feeling even with the Money he may still be the same way. He just seems like a Control freak who wants everything said in a particularly way that only he can do.

that's close to the strategy that I use. not so good at just one thing, but moderately acceptable at a few.

I remember a while back, Perry Belcher from Digital Marketer asked an audience how much they though an average blogger made per day and gave them a choice of dollar values to choose. They where all wrong and he went on to day that the average blogger makes about $3 per day.

I use to have zero interest in blogs, however, this has changed. I generate a lot of leads and having blogs for various underlying domains used, that have insightful / quality articles, can add to social proof / authority. Also, I generate all traffic through purchased data, so the majority of initial contacts is with cold email. So a blog can be beneficial with some of the data. Plus there are times it is useful to advertise a blog post in an email, over a pitch.

With that said, I think having a blog(s) caan be useful, but I wouldn't want to be a blogger and have it as a sole means of income.

Perez Hilton got big because he turned himself into a brand

I'm sure he's outsourcing his blogging now. There just aren't enough hours in a day.

Nick Denton of Gawker took a different tack.

Unlike Hilton who kept writing his own stuff until several years ago, Denton pretty much outsourced from the get go.

He focused on what matters most: Building a brand

There are different paths to the same outcome.

It all depends on YOU--the would be blogger entrpreneur.

Now, keep in mind that if you don't play your cards right, over 90% of blogs end up FAILING.

    Hi Robert,

I think if you can devote almost all of your energy to giving, or to serving your audience exactly what they want, and if you brand yourself as well as Perez has, the sky is the limit.

PH hopped on an always popular topic: celebrity dish. He's smart. He knows most folks either have a passing interest in gossip but some have an obsession with the topic. So he capitalized on this massive demand, busted his tail building himself a one of a kind brand, served his audience of gossip lovers, and he's made some serious coin.

The model is profitable for any body in most niches but few do the branding legwork and serious networking that the top bloggers do, reaching out, connecting, doing their best to be everywhere at once to increase their exposure.

I'm seeing even on a small scale that meeting 5, 10 or 50 new folks daily through guest posting, landing on page 1 for competitive keywords, social media, and forum marketing, how you can slowly and steadily expand your presence which leads to near and short term profits.

This guy was just super clear on his direction and gave so much of his energy to *giving* that his *getting* is just monstrous.

Interesting guy to study because his success leaves some telling clues.

I have a gossip blog but not just about celebrities, I am hoping my other subjects such as health, sport and beauty willhelp with the traffic and gives me lots of other options. I have done link building this year but concentrating on new posts next year, I have a not of patience and will just keep going. Whether you like Perez or not you have to take your hat off to him for building his brand and keeps the rest of us celebrity bloggers inspired to succeed
