A Year and a soul later, am ready to quit

Today was terrible! I write for a content mill. One, I think, pays marginally better than the others.

Before you say anything. I know. Content mills are slave drivers. But I crank out 500 words per hour there and get $10. Whoop!

That's a whole lot of cash where I comr from. You can live off $10 for a week. Comfortably.

I make an average of $40 daily writing for the mill. Which means on day 3 I've paid my rent. And got something left over for groceries.

So everything was fine and dandy till today. Woke up as usual at 3 am. That's when you get the best gigs. Wrote 6 articles by 9am and went about my day.

Usually I read a bunch of books about computers which I never seem to understand.

Then I decide to check if my articles got approved at around mid day.

All but one were approved.

So I check the editors comments.

Grammatical mistakes was the reason.

Am not a native speaker. Sometimes I slip up. Anyway, I read through the 430 words and find some mistakes which I quickly correct.

I then fire up grammarly and it tells me everything is okay.

Satisfied, I resubmit the work.

Couple of hours later, the editor sends the article back.

Still not up to par with our standards he/she tells me.

With a puzzled look, I read over the article. I find zilch errors.

Am not saying it was perfect. But from my experience writing for these guys, the article was up to standards.

Maybe they forgot to send me the memo.

But since there's little else I can do, I decide to rewrite the piece. That was around 3 in the afternoon.

I sent the new article. At around 6. The rewrite pops up again undet the revisions tab.

Is it April Fools somewhere and these guys are playing tricks on writers? Or has my English comprehension disappeared overnight?

I stare at the screen for a while. Thinking what to do next. If i drop the revision, my ratings plummet and I can kiss that sweet weekly check goodbye.

About 30 minutes later, am working on the revision. This time, am going all out. I read about the topic, which was natural mosquito repellents, for an entire hour and write what I think is a scholarly piece on repelling mosquitos with various ointments. 980 words later, I click submit.

They have to take note of the extra effort, I think to myself.

Not.

20 minutes ago, the editor sent it back.

Reason? Poor content!

I crammed as much info about eucalyptus mosquito repelling powers as I could. I followed the style guide and even threw in a few hundred words for good measure.

Long story short, I want out of content mills.

Can the article writers here guide me on how to get direct clients?

I'd like to think my writing is not all that bad. Although if you notice a few typos on this post know am writing with the bones on my fingers.

If there's a marketer there who wants a bit of help with content, I can help out.

But I need help getting out of this content mill thing.
