.Info vs .Com -> Does It Matter for Squeeze Pages?

Hey Guys,

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on just registering a .info domain instead of a .com if the domain is taken already, specifically if its just for a squeeze page and not to actually get ranked organically.

i.e.

Instead of WeightLossTips.com, sending traffic to WeightLossTips.info and capturing them via Opt-In form.

Would more people just remember the first part of the domain and still type .com after (losing visitors)

Or would EasyWeightLossTips.com be better?

Thoughts?

PS - This is more in terms of Video Marketing -> Less Words in Domain the Better for Remembering (I'd assume)

People are going to always think .com first.

So in this case if your domain was WeightLossTips.info and all the customer remembered was WeightLossTips, 99% of the time they will go to the .com version. I doubt that they will think "oh well maybe its .info". If they think they are at the wrong site, they are going to type in a completely different website like WeightLossToday or WeightLossHelp, but not the .info.

So even though its for a squeeze page you should keep this in mind because people don't always take action the first time around.

What Sonja was saying is right. In terms of serps, it doesn't effect whether you have .com or .info.

In the context that you are asking, the answer is no, it doesn't really matter. What matters more is the kind of traffic you're going to get and testing and tracking and tweaking to increase your conversions. With my non-SEO websites where I'm just sending traffic to a squeeze page, I've taken out .tv, .org. .net., and .info domain names.

I agree that .com is the one hard imprinted on the minds of most. I have come across many seasoned experts advicing the same thing.

Better option would be to prefix something like bestWeightLossTips. com, for example.

The reason I ask about serps is say a domain squatter has the .com and it is just on a parking page will it be easy to boost the .info ??

If you're going for a squeeze page and straight SERPs traffic then .info is fine.
If you want to get into Branding then .com is what you want no doubt.
.net would even be better than .info for any branding purposes.
Either way you're going to have to work your ass off

PS: I see some .info sites in the Gaming niche with good SERPs if that helps you.

Ok thats what I thought but some people say that .info is discounted by google because they are cheap an alot of spammers use them.

Get a dot com all the time google has a thing it does not like about dot info because dot info used to be used for spam and phising sites

Google loves dot com more then any other domain name

    what i think personally anyway

    hope that helps

If you lose even 1 sale because it's a .info and not a .com, buying the .info will not be worth it.

Stick with the .com. You'll always be better off in the long run.

Get a .com/.net as this always helps in SERP(Think about it this way how many times have you seen the 1st ranked result being .info). If you dont have that as an option then .info is fine.

As far as loosing traffic is concerned am not sure how many people just type in the url in the browser and visit the website(Not talking about big sites like yahoo or facebook). They just come thru a link or from their favorites etc.
