What does everyone use for pictures on their blogs?

Although I mostly just search for high resolution photo of whatever it is I need from google and use the ones that doesn't have anyone's name on it or no copyright ... Hope that helps.

For low photos and illustrations I use canstockphoto.com

If you sign up and then buy credits it works out really cheaply for low resolution photos

Other than that there are Creative Commons images you can use, for non-commercial use, from sites like Wikipedia providing you credit the originator.

And search for "public domain photos" to see sites like:

http://www.public-domain-photos.com/

I just checked the place out and they seem to pretty much have the same photos as the sites that charge much higher prices using credits. They also have more options for subscriptions.

I have done the dreamstime subscription, where I got photos for like .29 ish. The downside is that you have to grab everything within 30 days. Then down the road, you end up needing something you never thought about when you were downloading. Plus, you can end up getting more for a vertical than you really need.

So it's not necessarily a bad thing ti pay a bit more and get less and spread your buys out over time.

I have found that the free sites are just worthless and time wasters, if you need pics that are for a commercial vertical.

I alway try Google images with the settings set to permission to re-use, sometimes I find some good ones.

Why take the chance for a "cease and desist" letter or worse.

But for a good blog post I don't mind spending a few bucks.

As someone else said . . . you can use Google image search, and set the options (in Advanced Settings) to "free to use or modify commercially), which is near the bottom of the advanced options.

A few years ago, Google image search was not good, but they've been improving a lot and you'll now usually get some decent images from their search (as above), and sometimes a few great ones (I've just done maybe the best graphic I've ever created, using a free image, and it looks GREAT, although I say so myself !).

Doing that, you'll also come across some images that are on free image sites, so you can just click through to that site and do a search there too.

I use negativespace.co and pexels.com to find free images. They both curate and pull pictures from many sources. It is not enough to have beautiful photographs, but they must add some meaning. I look for hero shots containing active people that do more than spice up a page. Pictures must contain a certain resonance.

So true! I try to go more for "imagery" than images when I'm looking for the perfect photo for my posts, especially for the featured image. And sometimes I'll find an image that's missing something that I'll find in another image. So I'll edit them in PhotoShop into one ideal image.

Along with flickr.com, I like Morguefile for large formats.

Another one that's useful now and then is pngimg.

Useful flickr tool
ImageCodr is great if you're not a coder. You just paste in the link to the flickr image and it automatically creates the proper image credits.

There are a lot of photos that are free to use out there and other members have pointed out some useful resource. Additionally, you could also use some simple graphics to create your own image headings to go with your article. I've seen may people use PowerPoint or even MS Paint to do so, while more advanced users might go with PhotoShop. You don't need to create anything fancy, just a something simple and clean. It's fast and effective when you get the hang of it.

Hi

Simply search for stock photos.

If you do a google search type in Stock Photos and click on a few websites.

You can do a free search on the sites so you can find which site offers you the photos you are after (the majority of the websites are pretty much the same but some may have different photos than others).
