Hi,

I want to share the most important lesson I learned from internet marketing and I am very interested in hearing yours as well.

Not Having A Plan

Not having a plan was the most important lesson I learned and when an Internet marketer is investing money in a marketing campaign, it is very crucial to put a lot of effort into it. After all, you want to make sure you are seeing some return on your investments.

But when I first started out with Internet Marketing as a business, I did not put enough effort into it. Of course, when you are first starting off you tend not to put a lot of cash on the line so if something does not work out you are not to bum out about it too much. I also tended to forget to do important steps because I got too wrapped up into things that did not matter.

However, I had to learn how to think differently. I needed to take more serious approach to my marketing campaign as if it was a $20,000 investment! When I started to do this not only did I learn a lot but it paid off for my business in the long term.

Now I make sure to have a plan made for when I am trying to achieve something. Now I am always thinking about how I can better develop my business in this manner.

Please share the most important lesson you learned from Internet Marketing.

I learned that most IM sellers are selling BS. I also learned that most of IM buyers are big dreamers who will fall to buy every BS IM products easily. IMHO.

Regarding my own IM business, I don't have a plan. I just go to do something and make money. I will fix anything needed while do it. If it doesn't return to any profit, I just leave it and try other method. IMHO.

I absolutely agree. I think its funny how many people call themselves "entrepreneurs" when all they do is selling absolute BS infoproducts with BS landing pages and the always same BS phrases. You could say that if they are making sales with it they are somewhat good in what they doing, but personally I couldn't spend a live selling crap full time.

And thats already leads to one of my most important lessons in IM (I learned too many): in the long run, you have to focus on the customers needs. If you know which group to serve doing what exactly, money will come automatically sooner or later. This assumes that you somehow know how to monetize in the end of course. But if you just think about your quick profits, you either won't make any at all or just jump from one small paycheck to another, having to reinvent stuff much more often than neccessary.

      Also stop going onto forums.
Stop trying to sell IM stuff to other IMers.

I only visit here to see anything has changed... same old questions ... same old answers.
You will be better off out in the real world and you will be surprised at what new opportunities will come your way. You will overdose on snake oil if you drink too much IM BS.
Go for a walk you will get fresh ideas.

Similar to your lesson, that an online business is like a psychical one in that I still needed to have a plan & business strategy.

I really did think that just signing up as an affiliate for various products and posting links all over my social media was going to give me 4 figure paydays, alas it was not that that easy!

Selling something is the bottom line.

You can do all sorts of things to keep yourself busy all day long in your business. But most of those activities should be in direct support of actually selling something.

    No sales = no business
    No sales = no fun
    No sales = unhappy spouse
    No sales = no money

What was the most important lesson you learned from Internet Marketing?
That a lot of people, even on here, are only interested in profiting from your failure...

...and those who are falling over themselves to try and appear as an authority, are the worst ones for it..

But just take a quick look through their previous posts and you can spot the fakes pretty easily...

    I mean..

Why on earth would you take marketing advice from someone who can't even get the basics right, like get comments or a share count on their own blog??

...and when WF accounts are easily bought, longevity doesn't mean jack.

The most important lesson I have learned is to keep quiet until the plan is implemented. Talking with others about my plan deteriorates my trajectory and I always end up doing things wrong under the burden of expectations. Therefore fake it until you make it.

    Hi Yokolo,

I think you hit the nail on the head - you need a business plan!

Getting as much information on the bizop, and developing a 12 month cash flow projection, showing expected revenue, expenses, profit /loss will help you determine what it will take for the business to be successful.

Approaching my online business as a business, has helped me to survive where others I know had given up.

The most important IM lesson that I learned is to always stick with one business idea.

I jumped from one opportunity to another one without sticking to one business plan and eventually delayed my success in IM world.

Only listen to people who are making money.

I repeat, only listen to people who are MAKING MONEY. Not thousands of posts on a forum, MAKING MONEY.

Ignore people who are not making money and listen to those that do and you will succeed.

Also, not that I have a coaching program, I also learned that most people that buy something don't even consume it. They literally buy it, forget about it (or are not interested anymore), and don't even listen to the first video. It's not just with my program, pretty much all of my friends with programs reported the same thing. Their mind is blown away by how few people actually go through the program.

What i'm trying to say is that it's all mental. There are people out there with mental blockages that will never make it, and you need to NOT listen to them or you will become like them.

Literally only listen to people who produce results.

That's the big one thing I've learned.

Most important lesson is to have patience and to always be learning and trying new things. You might not get results with something once but if you keep at it eventually you'll get good at it.

Most important lesson I learned was never work alone in this business. You need people, support from other entrepreneurs, respectable coach who can guide you and focus on one task that suites you instead of keeps chasing the shiny objects.

You need to start with crafting/choosing your product or service intelligently. If you sell what people CARE about, it wouldn't be as hard to market it. Be human. Be personal. Quality matters more than you think.

...When you don't want to rewrite that error ridden PDF....Just Do it !!
...When you don't want to go over your Videos to make sure there was no mistakes...Just Do it
...When you don't feel like Emailing some of your Affiliates that last email...Just Do it
....When you don't want to write that extra Post to solidify your View...Just Do it

My point being that one of the best Lessons you can take away ....is doing some of the seemingly small things that MOST people don't do ( or don't want to do )

Being able to tie marketing SPEND to everything you do. Measure EVERYTHING.

How does PPC perform compared to FB ads for example? Are the leads higher quality? What are the sales conversation rates compared to both?

Need to understand your return on investment for every ad you place, where your leads are coming from, so you can invest into what is working and what is not.

Really like this advice. I think before spending anything on marketing, try generating inbound leads first, learning online marketing inside and out before spending a dime for free!
