Download Page For Selling Products

Hello, I am looking to sell some products on JVZoo. I'm trying to figure out how to set up a product download page. I don't want to just upload my files to my web server and then give the people that link. Doesn't seem very secure and would probably be slow as well. I want to get some methods for how I can do this. Your help is much appreciated.

Nothing is secure. If somebody wants to steal and share your stuff, they're going to.

If Hollywood knew of a solution to stop that kinda stuff they'd be first in line.

But you can tighten things up a bit.. on the tech side of the spectrum you can use a .htaccess to password protect a folder.

On the other side of the spectrum, you could use a membership program.. but that seems overkill.

Of course you should be able to protect the download.
You can't protect it against being giving away, once they have it :-)

But a password protected folder is not secure, everyone can use it with password.

You could have a script that creates a unique html page with unique filename.
But I didn't do that yet, because not 100% sure it will work all the time and maybe it creates more support too...but even you should have to give 3 downloads ( because sometimes doesn't succeed at client side or doesn't find it ).

If you want more security, if you use paypal, you could check if it comes from Paypal ( in fact the IPN )

BUT it makes it all a lot more complicated :-(

Unless it's a high ticket, just set up a thank you page. This also gives you the chance to get in front of buyers with related offers.

I wouldn't worry about it, just make sure your product is well branded. Then if someone does start sharing it, it's free distribution for you.

You can always use JVZ secure download.

Thats'a good point here: "free distribution for you" why worry, if you can promote
something inside your book or product. It's not easy to get free promotion these days, actually it costs money to even give away something for free in most cases.

If that's too much of a 'free thought' then just password protect the download page - or - even smarter - research a little script or code that asks where the visitor is coming from when they reach the download page. If they access it directly they will be redirected to the home page - if they come from the payment processors domain they can access the download page. It works.

        I agree....

Maybe a small thing you can do, is that the page isn't put in search engine results ( sometimes I found the download page without searching for it...

Here is how to do it, Google explains :-)
        https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/93710?hl=en
There is even a tester to see if you made it correctly

Of course do it only for your download pages ( and other hidden pages )... small things can help much more...

I hope it helped you and others :-)

its been a few years that i've done that myself...and didnt keep doing it,
these days i password protect login or download pages. Advantage of
that is: Email contact is needed to establish who will download or login,
so we stay in contact with each other, and also I can block non-authorized
people if i choose to do so.

A product download page won't automatically mean secure. Nothing is secure when it's on the internet. I can't help you with a download page but maybe knowing a download page won't be more safe will save you some money.

Thanks for all the replies. So security aside, what's the best practices for doing this? Also how do I integrate Wordpress with JVZoo so that when someone purchases my product my Wordpress site will generate for them a username and password? I'd use the JVZoo product downloader but my product is to large for that. I was also looking at WP Download Page Protector...
