Cant get into XSitePro... Registration problem

I know the horse has long bolted on this one but thought I would try my luck.

I'm looking for any help in relation to trying to open up XSP2. It was opening fine a month ago when I last opened it up. Today I tried to open it and its asking me to enter my license code just like I did when I purchased in 2008. Have tried numerous times entering the original and only license code I have and just get a "contacting license server" display that goes nowhere.

For anyone still using XSP has this happened to anyone in the past or is it happening now? Any suggestions?

Cheers

Glenn

They went out of business a few years ago. You need to get another program to use. I would suggest going to ebay and getting an older version of dreamweaver, and you might as well pick up some how-to books while you are there

    Thanks Al

I'm aware of the state of things with XSP and how it shut down a while back. I use WP only these days but there are few things I still use (used may be better said) XSP for that I wanted to get into the program. I have no idea why after almost 8 years without a problem that today the program chose to shut me out and ask me to register as if I had just purchased. That's basically what I was seeking help.

    Thanks for your response Al

I haven't opened mine for months. Upon seeing your post, I tried and it opened fine.

Can you think of anything that's happened since you last opened it? Like, have you moved it to a different computer? Have you installed any new or different hardware on your computer? Have you installed any software that might block its attempt to contact the license server?

After reading O/P, I tried my xsite pro2 , which i have not used since 2012.
The program opened up ok.So i assume it still works! but as i dont use anymore i think its time to uninstall to get rid of clutter.

They probably finally shut down the server that checked the license agreements and whatnot.

You should be able to open the site with any HTML editor even free ones like Kompozer then move it all to WordPress. XSP is gone, gone!

Man, you just brought back a bunch of memories for me. It makes me want to dig out the old PC and see what kind of sites I have stashed away on XSitePro.

Wow XsitePro. I still have it displayed to the upper left of my desktop as one of my top apps but I actually haven't used it in 2-3 years I think. I got curious because of this post and tried mine and it seems to be working ok. I didn't make a site and complete it but it opens and seems to be working as far as I see. I used it a lot back in its day.

    Just found this fix:
That's the problem with FB, etc - that ad is from 2013.

That software is no longer supported nor sold....even though the old sales page seems to be online.

    Hey everybody,

I'm having the same problem like the person who started this thread.

I have a purcahsed XSitePro a while back, and I'm moving everything over to a brand new computer, and I've tried the activation code but it's not registering.

I do believe is because the server is no longer available to validate my license code; however, the program still works on my other computer.

I do still have simple static websites I using online from XSitePro so I don't want to abandon XSitePro completely.

So, my question is, any technie that would know how to do get XSitePro 2 to open up again...or bypass the license validation (if somehow if I just copy the whole entire XSitePro folder with all my websites and data from the old computer)?

    Any help please?

I think it's time to let go. If you can still access the program on your old PC, see if you can export the files as HTML (there used to be a built-in option) and save those. Then you could re-create the old sites in WordPress or another site-building program either online or on your new computer.

I know how you feel - I used XSitePro for years and loved it, but life moves on.

Heck... I also just installed XSP on a new machine, and can't validate it now.
But I still have several huge sites that need to be kept maintenanced!!

As far as I remember, Paul had given it away for free at last. So is there no way to get it running without validation?

Does anyone know, how an installed working version can be transferred to a different computer? Any software that can do this?

HaRa, I removed the email address from your post. If anyone has any answers or suggestions, they can post them in this thread.

Have you tried the option of exporting your XSP files as HTML?

      Thanks Frank...

      1) Exporting the sites is definitely no option, I need the XSP software as the CMS for all my sites to add content and pages on an ongoing basis. I did not buy XSP to be able to use it for only a few years! Just considering having to rebuild and redesign those sites again... a nightmare! It would have been just fair for Paul - who made a fortune with this - to simply keep that domain and validation script alive for many years. All other domains, still 'selling' what is not available anymore, are alive! Alternatively he could have provided a little code patch to his customers, that would then bypass the validation.

So far one version of XSP is still running on my older laptop - but someday this will also die... and then what ?

So the question here is, does anyone know, how to transfer a complete installation to a different computer (perhaps as backup and recover?)?

      2) Can You please leave my email in the post?
As there might be someone stumbling over my inquiry even months later. So that they can contact me. I only created this account for this sole purpose of getting my inquiry out - and I can't keep logging in here on a regular basis in hope someone responded.

      Thanks...

Sorry, HaRa. This is a public discussion forum, not your personal contact service.

This issue with XSitePro has come up before, but I don't remember anyone posting a solution. You'll either have to face the fact that the software is now defunct and move on to another system, or hope Paul decides one day to come out of retirement to reactivate it. Painful as it is, I know what my choice would be.

        Good luck.

      Hello...

Can You please define in more detail, which account (?) You opened and how? Do You mean getting the sw-validation to work? Or reinstalling/transferring XSP in a different way?

There is no solution. XSP1 and 2 are unsupported and have not been updated for years now. You cannot reinstall the software. My own copies don't work at all. I sold a lot of copies of XSP as an affiliate - and built a LOT of sites with it. Hated to see it go but things change.

One reason the software ended up abandoned rather than sold was the growing popularity and usability of Wordpress.

Interesting comment Won't help to keep logging in if this is the only reason - it won't change. Xsitepro is no more.

Let me also add, if you're a software developer and your software requires verification, be cool and think about if you ever go out of business or your server is down and have a system to disable verification.

You are out of business so what do you care if someone uses your software without paying? Isn't it better to let people that did pay get on using your software than worry about those that didn't pay, since you are no longer in business?

The logic for the programming is simple:
    Check for verification
If no verification, check if server is up. If server can't be reached enable the software.

This allows people to use the software when the verification server is down for whatever reason.

This was my problem also. Here is what I learned just today. I had moved the XsitePro-Data directory from the Documents directory back to the D drive thinking I was doing some house cleaning. Bad mistake. XsitePro would no longer open and asked me for my registration which would not compute because the XSP server is not more. When I moved the XsitePro-Data directory back to the Documents directory and opened XsitePro, Holy Moly, it opened like nothing had ever been wrong. Anyway, that is how I fixed my XsitePro problem. Of course the program as an editor is worthless but I needed some content to use on a current site I am building in WP. Thanks

The op asked this question back in 2016 and has not been on since last Sepetember. He should of solved his problem going on 2 years by now.

Here is the solution offered above by SDavenport and it worked see more information in this post

This has been a question asked a lot, and I have also personally struggled to do this since I've bought a new computer.

The website-builder program XSitePro has been the pioneer in quick and easy web development, and a lot of us have built older sites with it still live, but the problem is the software is no longer supported and when you need to reinstall it on a new computer you are required to reactivate it again, however, the server to validate the registartion code is no longer available...so you would be stick and be forced to move on.

BUT here's how I managed to move XSitePro over from my old computer to a new one...

First of all, I have to give credit to "SDavenport" for mentioning this in the other thread (which strangely can no longer be replied to, so that was another reason why I started this thread. http://www.warriorforum.com/showthread.php?p=11316742 . To SDavenport, thank you! )

The main problem I think most of us didn't consider and realize was the "XSitePro-Data" folder located in the Document area on our hard-drive...that was the problem when we reinstall XSitePro on another computer, requiring reactivation again.

So, to solve it, COPY the "XSitePro-Data" folder from your old computer and paste it right into the Document folder on your new computer and it should work with not requiring you to reactivate the license again.

For me personally, I didn't reinstall XSitePro again but instead only copy both the entire "XSitePro2" folder from my old computer C:drive\Program Files and the "XSitePro-Data" located on My Document...and paste both of them exactly where they were located on my old computer...and voila! It worked and solved my problem!

Hope this helps and finally solve all those old XSitePro owners who still need to use the software.
