When launching an IM product, do you really close it again, or just keep it open indefinitely?

I am not talking about WSO's, but launching an IM product, with launch announcements, methods of getting affiliates interested etc. on other platforms.

It seems to be very common to launch a product, with a limited-availability time. Yet I know some affiliate marketers like to market the same product for an extended period of time, and some products obviously keep on being sold for many years.

So do you launch it, close it, then re-open it again soon after, or just keep it open (maybe with a price increase after the initial launch period), or what? Obviously, I want to keep both types of affiliates happy, both those who want to do the limited-availability launch to their lists to increase response, and those who want to do longer-term marketing.

Any info on what is typical in this industry, I'd be interested to know (I'm currently learning about product launches).

thanks in advance

Chris

I think it really depends on the product.

If it is a membership site, for example, you might want to close after a certain amount of members so you can provide them with the personal help they might need in the beginning then re-open when you feel you can handle more.

Another might be a plugin or software that is in beta. You might do an initial release and then close up for a while to see if there are any bugs that might need to be worked out.

IF it is just a product that is in .pdf format I see no valid reason to close it down unless your goal is to create false scarcity for unsuspecting newbies.

Thanks Al, I see what you're saying.

Yes, I am talking about a PDF product.

It's not so much what I want, as what affiliates want in order to promote my product and make lots of sales ! Most launches I see to mailing-lists, have a "false scarcity" factor, so I presume that's what affiliates find sells products?

Yet, as I say, I also know of affiliate methods, such as with paid-traffic, that are more long-term in nature.

I want to increase my chances of sales, by giving both of them what they want

As long as it's brining money in let it run. When it stops, that's the time to re-launch, or find a different product.

Good point, Bluemotion, looks like a good approach to me

That would be my plan, unless I hear a significant reason to do otherwise.
