What is your take on 4 Letter Domains?

Hey Folks,

I just got done reading Mike's thread on his 4 letter domain
(congrats Mike...that should prove to be a good one)...and
it got me thinking...

If you come across a 4 letter domain that is not taken...is
it worth buying...just because they are so scarce?

Does it really matter if the name is a random set of letters
that could be used as an acronym for some company in the
future that you can sell it to?

I am curious because there are still quite a few out there
and I am wondering if they are worth the $10 as an investment
in future returns?

What are your thoughts on this.

Thanks
Sean

    A 4 letter.com for $10?

4 letter .com's are good. Wouldn't bother much with the other TLD's.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought all 4 letter .coms were gone.

      Well....perhaps I am wrong... :-)

What if there were a number in it?

I guess that would exclude it from being
      a 4 "letter" domain...

Is it valuable in that respect?

For instance....something like me4u [dot] com
(which is taken) ...is that type of thing valuable?

      I am intrigued here.

      Thanks

For fun I tried out some 4 character domains that have both letters and numbers. They're not all taken.

Here are a few of them:

        y3ch.com - Looks like yech.com
        pa5t.com - Could double for past.com
        sl0p.com - Hey, looks like slop.com!

Let's see how long they remain available...

        Wendell

        P.S. I think I should get a 10% finders fee...Heh...

You can actually search for 4 letter domains at buydomains.com. Here's some examples of domains that are selling right now:

          AskH.com $7,388
          BHas.com $5,198
          AWar.com $6,600
          RCTV.com $3,034,000
          SeeQ.com $1,242,600
          copy.com $200,000

The shortest domain I have is 6 letters IMTips.com. One day I might do something with it - or sell it for $100,000 if anyone is interested

What about numbers in the domain?

            does this devalue the domain?

If you have a 3 or 4 number ONLY .com, than it is worth something. Same as in 3 or 4 letter ONLY .com.

When you mix numbers and letters, for example: EK4L.com, based on combination alone, it's really not valuable unless there's something more to it.

I also thought that 4 letter domains we're gone but what makes them appealing is that even if they do not make a word they could still be spelled and easy to remember.

I have a few 4 letter .com's and a few 3 letter .com's. Letters as in A through Z. No numbers or dashes.

They are completely worth the investment.

I have ToGW.com I got it for an email addy. ToGW, ToG(eorge)W(right) then I discovered gmail and I don't use hosting email.

It's an acronym for "take off gross weight" I thought about using it for a diet book.

Then others said hey use it for a putting on weight site "To Gain Weight"

    I just don't know.

The 4 letter buying frenzy has just cooled down a little. People are letting 4 letter domains drop these days. So should you pick up a 4 letter .com if its available for registration?

See if the domain has any premium letters,
letters x,y,z,v,u,w,q,j,k are not considered as premium letters. Domains containing these letters are low value ones, unless it is a cvcv/abab or a vcvc or a vvvv domain.
If the 4 letter domain has atleast 3 premium letters and one non-premium one register it.
If you find a domain which you can make no sense of or which has no acronym, then do not register it.

Some may read this and argue what if : work.com is available, well that is a dictionary word and there are very few dictionary 4 letter words and even less likely are their chance to drop. If you find one you register them
