I use it to give updates on software dev, any server issues (great way to keep in contact with customers if your site goes down!), and so John Taylor can take the piss out of my photo.

    All equally valid uses!

    cheers

Twitter is very useful to me for these reasons:

    1. Getting traffic, of cause
    2. Meet and make friends with top guns
    3. Strike joint venture deals
    4. Brand myself or my business
    5. Get a lot of free and useful information (from real good tweeples)
    6. Marketing and sharing good affiliate products
    7. Pull off a product launch
    8. Sharing blog post
    9. SEO

Twitter is a large forum place where you can get lots of recent info nowadays. You need to participate, just like forum, in order to build good relationship with thousands of followers. You need to unfollow those "spammers" because they won't benefit you and they are wasting your time on Twitter.

There many uses for Twitter - and the best bit is that YOU get to decide what they are.

Twitter is like life - it's what you make it.

My favorite uses for Twitter are real-time research and building relationships.

The search function is golden. You can find out what people are asking for help with or expressing a desire for.

Here's some anecdotal research for you folks who think Twitter is for blasting links at a list...

If all you ever tweet are affiliate promos and 'quotable quotes', people may not unfollow you. They'll just develop a form of banner blindness, where they simply don't notice your place in the stream as they scan for something they find useful or amusing.

I do that often - just scan down through people's photos, and pick out the ones I want to read.

There are a number of people on there that I haven't unfollowed, just in case they post something interesting one day, but I usually skip their posts simply because I haven't found anything interesting there in the past.

Twitter is a place where you can let your personality out of it's cage a little more.
