PHPBB Forum Install? Can Anyone Help PLEASE

Alright I am trying to install a forum in a protected file, so that only paid site members can join the forum, and I've run into a snag, I am not sure quite how to do it.

In Fantastico is says install in directory, and then I am supposed to put in where I want the forum installed, problem is I need it deeper than just say http://domain/name/ (I know in that case I enter just "name") what I need is more like http://domain/members/name so what do I enter into the box? Would it be members/name or what?

Not sure if that makes sense, and thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

You can do a manual install in any folder that you want. If you need it deeper than www.domain.com/name you can manually install it into www.domain.com/members/otherfolder and it should work as long as you direct it to the right database.

Using Fantastico the format should be members/name/

If you have any questions or need any help including a manual install, just let me know, I'll be glad to help.

This is my phpbb forum which was manually installed. Lose The Weight • Index page

Edit: As you can see, I'm using some magical scripts there

I had the same exact problem but unfortunately i dont remember the solution. But i simply called hostgator support and they walked me through the workaround.

Given what you've got the following obviously isn't going to help you for this specific project - but for future projects it'll be golden.

The easiest way to do this sort of thing is by building your site in Drupal, use it's membership system, then hook it directly to vBulletin - you can make vBulletin use Drupals user membership system.

This gives you best of breed in both areas:
Drupal - the best Content Management System for your Website.
vBulletin - the best web forum around.

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish but here we go

If what you are trying to do is a password protected folder that contains phpbb within it, I think you would have to do a manual install in whichever folder you need it in within your website structure.

Don't worry a manual install is pretty easy and here is a link that tells you how.
    phpBB3 • Install

If what you are trying to accomplish is an actual members forum then this is the link to do so.
    phpBB • Create a private forum • 2.0

In the first scenario, you are actually trying to keep non members off a public forum by using a password protected folder. Notice how I said public forum and the forum itself is completely open in this scenario.

In the 2nd one, you are now making an actual member's forum

PS. Thegamecat is correct with his post above. You might have a little bit of a learning curve using that system.

Thanks everyone, this is enough of a learning curve for me LOL, I've never even so much as set up my own database before but I did it, and now I will be manually installing it LOL so wish me luck.
