How To Choose The Right Niche For Your Next Amazon Site

Lots of people get stuck on niche selection.

They tend to over complicate this easy step.

Here are some criteria I suggest you use for selecting a niche for your next Amazon Site.

The niche must have lots of people spending lots of money in it. Don't try to go for smaller niches that are not proven money makers. Choose a big niche and get your slice of the pie.

It's better to build one big Authority Site in a big profitable niche, rather than lots of smaller sites in tiny unproven niches.

The niche must have lots of Physical products that you can sell through Amazon, Shopify and other places. Can easily be checked by the number of reviews for products on Amazon.

Make sure some of the products that sell well are in the $200 to $400 range. I find those to be my best money makers.

The niche must also have lots of information products (books, Training courses, video courses etc.) being sold. You want to build a list on your site and info products are perfect for monetizing that list.

You can easily check that by going to the books section on Amazon and Clickbank. Do a search for your niche and see what there are.

You must have some sort of interest in the niche. I repeatedly make the mistake of going into niches that I could not care less about and although it is making me money, I find it a grind to work on the site and content etc. if I am not interested in the niche.

There you have it.

Choose a niche with the above criteria, build an Authority site around it drive traffic and start cashing in.

Cheers

Jan

That's not true. There are a ton of posts here on the Main Forum that tell you how to set up a profitable Amazon site ! Several well known posters here have shared a ton of quality tips how to get started. You do not need to waste time buying WSO's if you are willing to dig a little deeper. The War Room is another place to hunt for information on Amazon, if you have joined the War Room.

I know you said to pick a big niche that has tons of people spending money on it, but I've also had luck focusing on smaller niches, building a blog for them, and focusing on keywords that don't have a high amount of competition for them. They may not bring in big money, but they'll bring in consistent sales as long as you maintain your rankings. Then I move on to another small niche, and so on and so on.

Yes there is money to be made with holiday only type sites but the problem is that you are going to spend a ton of time and effort only to get paid a few months out of the year.

I would rather build an authority site in an evergreen niche that makes sales year long.

i wonder how much product review FREE content should you create to avoid Google labeling you site a "bridge" site...

or maybe a better question would be, whats the ideal ratio for product review free content vs product review content?

I used to run a profitable stroller site before the pandas and the penguins came and dropped my site.

Admittedly every piece of content was about a specific stroller (buyer keyword) that i found traffic on..

The bridge page issue was only for Adwords customers and not Seo. Your site got penalized for having a bad backlink profile. Two seperate issues.

The bridge page issue seemed to have fallen away after Google realized how much money they were losing to Facebook.

Thanks, Jan. Good to see you around these days.I like your idea of kind of refuting the Amazon incessant small Niche makers. It can work but I think the Authority way with a proven Niche as you suggest can be more profitable and easier for most to manage

I used to do many smaller sites in smaller niches and it worked and still do.

But with one bigger site one can spend all attention and resources on building just that one site in that niche and become an authority.

Better long term business model in my opinion. Especially if you can build a large list in that niche over time.

I prefer to use Google Trends, some top-notch keyword tools and a bit of research into the niches that I like/ I have some knowledge. This is my personal recipe when I am starting to build a new amz site.

I like this part where you say you use Google trend. I will also like to know how you pick out the keywords from these trends

Don't pick keywords. Actually forget about keywords and all that seo stuff for a minute.

Pick your product category. Let's say it's Callaway Golf irons.

Write a very good post about Callaway golf Irons where you review the different models, compare specs, give buying tips and advice etc. Make it great. Over 1 or even 2K words.

Then build a few good white hat links to that post. You will rank for all kind of long tail keywords and main keywords together.

Also do not over optimize your post with keyword stuffing in your Title, url and body. That used to work well but will get you flagged these days.

        Hope that helps.

    Excellent post, Jan...

I think our buddy Wusharer is still in the "hard rules" mindset, where the focus is much more on finding keywords that match specific criteria, rather than exercising thought on his own. He's looking for a guaranteed winner right out of the gate.

I used to bet the horses, where there is no such thing as a guaranteed winner. I recall one race where there ended up being only two horses starting. A place (second or better) wager seems like as sure a thing as you'll find, right? I put my money on the horse with the higher payout for place. The horse charged from the gate and promptly threw the jockey, for a DNF (did not finish) result. Anyone who bet on that horse lost. Some will ask 'why not bet both horses?' Because doing so would have guaranteed one winning ticket and a guaranteed loss of money due to the small payouts one would expect for a place bet on a two horse race.

My point being, sometimes you have to look at the information available, then close your eyes, cross your fingers and make your bet.

I agree that if you aren't interested in some niches it's not worth to start with them. You feel boring and every fail makes you think that it's not yours.
