Best Amazon Affiliate method

Hi,

I have a site I developed with the intention of selling related products through the Amazon Affiliate program.
It is quite a broad topic and there are possibly hundreds of related products.

What I am wondering is what is the best way to sell.

My original plan was to keep the content unique and have all product links in bespoke "10 best style articles"

The alternative, I guess, is to have a shop type setup with product links from my articles. I wasn't too sure of the value of this and figured it might be bad from an SEO point of view.

What do you reckon. Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

    Hi, surfgatinho

    I like your original plan.

My strategy - write articles which provide a solution to a problem that people have and add links to products which can solve this problem.

Definitely create content - as opposed to a shop. Chances are people won't bother checking your shop. And they only would if they trusted you (which comes back down to your content).

Find questions people are asking in the niche/industry. For example, let's say you're planning on marketing laptops. Questions such as "which laptop is the best value for money" or "cheap alternative to a macbook" etc, etc. You can use the Google keyword planner to find keywords with a high search volume and low competition.

Don't just do listicles because they become tiresome very quickly. Instead, create guides and useful/unique content (that's what I do) and you'll quickly see a rise in SERPs and traffic.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Pretty much felt that writing content was going to be the best answer.

Extra thanks for the suggestions on article formats. Will start thinking about some ideas for these.

Funny I was talking about that this morning. Coming close to the holiday season. I remember when you could place hyper links in craigslist and I did something like 2 grand in revenue created in less than a week.

I just go on to create a Wordpress site after picking my niche and products and get content tailored towards the keywords/products.

I prefer to use Amazon Native ads for my target page and I use them in an optimised way and giving my visitors a variety of products to choose from.

The most vital thing is getting targeted traffic or direct traffic from SE (chosen keywords).

    It's that simple..

Create a bigger authority site with product reviews and other good content in the niche.

Focus more on creating higher quality content 1500 words plus rather than more quantity.

Give away something of value on the site to build your list. Put the form below content, sidebar or/and a popup.

    Drive traffic to the site.

    SEO, PPC, Social Media.

    Thats it.

    Cheers

I agree. Writing good content is the most important thing. Also building quality backlinks. Don't expect overnight success. It takes time, but if you keep working at it, you will see results.

I wouldn't advise you to create a shop. Just stick to the main plan and create quality content

Both can work. And both can fail. It all depends on your users and what the value is that you're delivering to them.

For instance, if your shop is basically a scaled down mirror of a few (or a lot) of the product categories on Amazon, why wouldn't a customer just go to Amazon for that?

Similarly, if your site's articles are just a lot of rehashed crap that you synthesize from Amazon reviews, why wouldn't a customers just read the reviews on Amazon directly?

That said... If you have a unique spin on your shop... Or if your articles are unique and very high quality, I can start to see a way that either model might work.

Take for instance, "This is Why I'm Broke" (http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/). I'm actually not a huge fan of this website, but I bet it does decently, though probably not spectacularly. Still, it's at least an example of how a shop might work for you. Notice how the categories on the site aren't anything like you'd find on Amazon. I can totally imagine people browsing through that site either for pure entertainment purposes or to buy an off-beat gift for someone.

Our website also has a large shop component -- with literally thousands of products available for browsing, sorting and searching. But again, we have product categories you won't find on Amazon. It works for us because Amazon is set up to serve the least common denominator and that leaves a large group of people underserved. Simply put our site fills a need that Amazon cannot. That said, we also write posts like the ones you're describing, so for us it's not either/or.

And I'd also caution you that as you start adding more and more products to your site (whether in a blog or in a shop), you're going to start needing systems to manage your virtual inventory. Products constantly are coming in an out of stock; being discontinued, having their ASINs change; or being replaced by new or better versions. We've developed some pretty sophisticated information systems that query Amazon's APIs so that we can monitor and fix problems with our catalog before our customers even know there's a problem. So if you can't do that, or can't find a pre-existing system to do that, you might want to stick with something smaller scale like the blog.

I agree that if your site just presents hundreds of different products, why don't visitors just visit Amazon directly and read the reviews there? If you want to build trust and authority, you should choose only one niche for one website. Focus on the niche you are interested in. It's also fun to work on the things you like. Write a lot of quality content (not product reviews) to help your visitors. Once your visitors trust you, they will also trust the products you recommend.

I have had much success with both methods. Sure you have the duplicate content issue with a product page site, however I use the Prosociate plugin which enables you to spin the product descriptions, titles etc.

I have done Amazon affiliate sites with keyword best.....and top rated....with much success.

Having used both methods I stick to the unique content model. Lots of articles based around 5 to 10 money keywords. Then I get the juice flowing with internal links to my money posts and start the PBN backlinks flowing to boost ranks.

Works every time for me :-)

i used to run a stroller site where id target specific brands that had search traffic (buyer keywords)

it got cast out of its many google listings because it was deemed a bridge site (traffic to light content then to amazon)

whatever you do, dont create a bridge site.

Be as specific as possible with your articles, and focus on targeted keywords that are related to each product. Example, instead of "10 Best LED TVs in 2016", use "10 Best Sony LCD LED TVs for Your Living Room". It's just an example, but the point being to get as specific with the product as possible.

Some people have covered it here, but basically you want to have a handful of target keywords in one niche, mostly "best XYZ product". These are your pillar articles. Here you will review your top 5 or top 10 products in that category, plus add some other helpful information. They should be 2,000+ words. Then you have a bunch of support articles that will be a combination of single product reviews and general informational articles in your niche.

Be sure it is quality content and you don't have affiliate links splattered all over every page or you risk getting your site smacked by G. You have to keep adding content and building links continuously over long periods of time too. And unfortunately, I think this strategy is going to become less lucrative over time as more and more people just go straight to Amazon, bypassing Google completely.

OK. Thanks for the many helpful replies.

Here is my plan. I will continue writing articles and these will be written at about 2 or 3 levels of specificness, with the lowest level being the page with the products on.

So, this might look like; TVs -> LCD TVs -> Guide to buying LCD TVs (Amazon links here)

Obviously TVs aren't my niche but the idea is to focus several broader articles on to by individual monetized pages.

This might end up being a little too much work, but I'll see how I get on

        thank you jan.

can you give more details. is this option profitable?
exact keyword search ads are expensive a bit.

for example "bla bla bla review" ppc is $1. product cost $80, if visitor will buy, comission is $4.8. but every visitor come from search ads won't buy.

what's your strategy and purchase percentage?

        thanks

I think not all products/keywords will be ideal for PPC. For example Commercial/industrial + product keyword will be ideal to promote using PPC as generally the prices for the products are higher.

I don't promote products on PPC that cost less than 100 bucks. I find the $200 to $400 range to be the sweet spot. That way I get between $16 and $30 commission per sale.

My average cpc is 25 cents with some keywords as low as 9 cents.

The big thing is that you have to be able to track your conversions on keyword level. I had a plugin developed in house to do that for me.

          Hope that helps.

thanks Jan, these are very important for me.

I think you are using relative keywords not the exact keywords ?!

I wanna give for example : I think these keywords are more convertable

            "amazon tap review"
            "amazon echo review" etc.

could you please share your experiences?

            thanks a lot

I'd recommend you to check the WSOs of fellow WF member Sojourn if you are starting with being an Amazon Affiliate.

The best way to promote Amazon products is to write/outsource quality, meaty content in your specific niche that people will find useful for years to come.

If your niche is one that actually sells and your content is targeted and has enough quality, you just need to add a little SEO to make things happen.

There are 2 ways I would recommend you can sell the affiliate products:

    1. You can use advertisement.amazon.com

    2. Social Media Marketing (You can run paid ads using FB Business Manager. You can define your own daily budget & you can reach target audience.

You can also build your own Shop on Amazon.com or ebay.com. SEO is very important to drive right traffic so once your store is setup, you should also begin SEO of all products. Amazon has their own feature for keywords for each product which helps in SEO process

Jan nailed it with needing to know your numbers.

I used to promote boxed sets of TV series using Adwords to a landing page to Amazon. As Ike said, these would now be considered mostly bridge pages, but the point I want to make is still valid.

By watching my numbers, I figured out that this particular niche product was quite time-sensitive. It made good ROI during the Christmas season and for a month or two after a series finale (series, not season - when there would be no more new episodes). Outside of these timeframes, the only way to make money, for me at least, was to pause the ad campaigns and rely on random search traffic for an occasional sale.

You can find a lot of articles about the "best time to buy __________" and new ones come out every year. I haven't tried it, but you might want to test running your ads when one of these shows up and gets some traction.

The bridge page issue is gone.

When Google went bat shit crazy a few years ago by closing thousands of accounts their revenue dropped dramatically. Their stock price took a big hit and Facebook also took a big share of their revenue.

They did a complete 360 and are now very pleasant to deal with.
