I have been trying to make this business work for some time now, that is the reason why I still call myself a newbie. I really am not a noob, I know almost everything there is to know about this business, but still cant seem to get anything going here. I know how to do SEO, backlinks, Article Marketing, Adwords, etc. Just cant seem to profit doing it!

I quit my teaching job two years ago to follow a dream, a dream of being an entrepreneur. I opened up a mortgage company right at the beginning of a really bad economic turn. I switched to real estate investing and flipped some houses in Ohio, and Tennessee, sold them to people in California and made myself a little money. Soon, everyone stopped investing out of state due to the financial crisis..... ok, so now what?

I had some money that I had made and decided that I would take a crack at making a living online. Well, here I am 8 months later and I feel that I still cannot get anything going that would really help me and my family.

I am under so much stress to get things figured out here, I think my vision gets blurred and cant seem to concentrate on any one thing, I have become more desperate, and that is not helping me. That is why I need a mentor. I need someone to keep my a$$ in gear and keep me focused and assure me that what I do every day will pay off.

I am at a point where I need to either get a job really soon or start bringing in some cash online. The humility of losing my house and having to move my family in with my in-laws is draining on me, and yes, I know I am not the only one losing my house, but this feeling is not a good one.

I sometimes regret my decision to leave teaching, I had a good JOB, that paid the bills, but it was not what I wanted to do with my life. I couldnt show my kids that we would have to live a life of tight budgets and mediocrity, but now I have put their lives at risk.

Wow, I am really spilling my guts here... Sorry for that! I know I just need someone to slap me and say "Snap out of it!" I have PM'd many of you on this forum, some have given good advice, and some seem to be bothered.

Anyway, the need for a mentor was my purpose for writing. I would appreciate any thoughts of encouragement, and prayer! Thanks Warrior Forum for lending an ear, just had to vent!

    Hi Dave,

It can be tough to make it online. My personal advice would be that you concentrate more on things that you are actually interested in and then look at how you can profit from this. What are your hobbies? Chances are that there are other people online who are interested in the same thing that you are and you can make some profit.

Send me a PM if you want to chat.

    Cheers,

    Hamish

Have you considered offering services to other IM-ers while you're getting mentored? It can be a great way to bring in additional income.

      hey TinkerandPo,

What types of services are you referring to? Backlinking? Article Writing? I would but I wouldnt know what to charge and feel that there are so many veterans here, if I did something wrong I wouldnt be such a good thing. Any suggestions about how to do this? Some have pm'd me and said "Do a WSO" but I guess I have to spend more time here figuring out what people are charging and how I can fit in?

Dave, let me give it to you straight.

People who are really successful and actually walk the talk are usually
too busy to give their help for free. Maybe there are exceptions, but I
        haven't run into them personally.

If you want somebody who really knows his stuff to help you, be prepared
to pay a nice chunk of change for it.

If I'm wrong, and there are actually people here making 6 and 7 figures
a year with all the time in the world to give you, I more than welcome them
to either publicly make the offer or PM you in private.

But...if anybody asks you for even one DIME...make sure you thoroughly
research them first. Get referrals. Go to the search engines and see how
much you can find...good or bad.

Do NOT...repeat...NOT take anyone's word for it just because they claim
to be successful. Anybody can say anything here.

        Talk is cheap.

        Results are what matter.

Well, spend some time researching the WSO thread and the Classifieds here, figure out what you have the ability to do, put a price on it based on your research, and then either run a WSO or post a classified.

Just don't get your hopes up when looking for a good mentor. I was approached/PM'ed by a guy that wanted to help me for free (I won't put his name here, but if anyone wants it feel free to PM me), then made a bunch of empty promises, didn't deliver, and then ignored me for 4 days straight when we were supposed to do some work online. This is despite the fact that he is on this forum almost 24/7, and this guy actually has the gall to call other people unprofessional in his replies.

Wow, sorry about that rant. I guess my point is that a lot of people blow hot air and don't deliver, so take everything with a grain of salt. I'm in the same boat as you, trying to find a legit mentor that can help me. Apparently some people get their rocks off by getting newbie's hopes up and then ignoring them.

Good luck to you, hopefully both of us can end up being successful very soon.

Wow - seems like you feel you've been taken for a ride.

I agree with what Steven Wagenheim has said on this thread - successful guys on this forum will always give their advice for free and with enthusiasm but there is a distinct difference between advice and mentorship.

A true mentor gives TIME as well as ADVICE and most guys on here are too busy being in business to give alot of time, UNLESS, as Steven has said, they are getting paid for it.

Don't tar everyone with the same brush, though. There's a huge amount of experience to tap into here and you'd be daft not to take advantage of that.

      Steve.

I just came across this today, LOL, thanks Lester. When I posted this thread I was very desperate and still searching for answers. Wow, how things have changed.

I'm sure things are much better for you as well. You are doing great and it is nice to see what you have accomplished as well.

Just goes to show you that hard work really pays off.

      Fight On,

What I have found is that any good mentoring, will cost money. Unless you're only talking about an occaisional suggestion or two. People who know theit craft will expect you to buy their porducts, at a minimum. I just realized this is a two year old thread!

You should concentrate on something that is making money now - look at what others are doing (selling WSO's / creating services) copy those, make it better and put your own twist to it. Sell your service to others, find something that people want and go do it. I'm sure you will be able to overcome your situation soon. Hope for the best!

This is where you get an "F" Mr. Teacher.

This is where you were given an obstacle and you gave up.

You were making money, you had a track record, and because the rules of the game changed, you did not change with them. You did not try hard enough to stay in that market/niche and find solutions to the issues at hand.

Do you think online is really any different?

      It's NOT.

You are going to have the same issue online if you think you can come up with a system that will never need some revision or tweeking or new innovation.

That is what being an entreprenuer is all about.

Things change, search engines change, rules change, and so you need to find a niche you want to stay with through thick and thin and stick with it. Become the authority in that field.

    Dave:

Write an ebook on how to make money flipping real estate. Go to the top bloggers and ask them to read, review, and, reccommend. Put your book on Amazon. Light a cigar and celebrate.

You just made your first dollar online!

Step two....distribute that baby to as many marketing distribution channels as you can think of.... light another cigar...you make some money now baby.

Scale until the wheels fall off.....build a following.
