Just hired a videographer...help!

Hey guys,

I own a small dog training company in SLC. We're about 10 people strong.

I just hired a videographer to create content. Content is going to be training tips, case studies, how-to, and we're even going to be doing a reality show 'Real Dog Trainers of SLC'.

These will be webisodes of about 5-10 minutes each.

My social media channels aren't huge; about 4000 on Facebook and 6000 on Youtube.

My question is the format that I should release the video?

1- Should I upload to youtube, then post the link on facebook? If so, will that hurt viewership? Because people may not want to click over?

2- Should I upload the same video to both facebook and youtube and let people consume it on the channel they want? Or is it bad to do the exact same video on both platforms?

3- Should I slightly alter one version with a different intro and put that one on Youtube and the other on Facebook so they're different?

My strategy will be to drive facebook traffic at first to the episodes. I've never done youtube ads but may use that strategy later to get more youtube views.

Thoughts? How would you present the content?

Thanks!

I would not worry about having slightly different versions for youtube and FB, use the same one. Have them set up with the intent of driving traffic to you site.

Also post the videos on your site as well.

You can use the same video on your Facebook page as you do on your Youtube, it won't hurt anything. If you want, you can use a slightly different title for the video on each network.

It sounds like your goal is to get as many views on your videos as possible, so deploying them on both platforms wouldn't hurt.

Facebook audience generally want shorter video than youtube. 3 minutes or less.

So upload the full version on youtube, upload shorter version (with notice at the end "visit our youtube channel for complete video").

Embed the youtube video on your website with short description. More preferably, put an article 1000+ words long under the video.

Also, the Facebook algorithm is rumoured to favour videos uploaded directly to the site, rather than linked from YouTube. So I'd recommend uploading to each separately.

I also agree that the Facebook video should be a shorter, with a link for people to find out more. I'd host the full length YouTube video on your website, which will be where interested Facebook fans would visit.

    Good luck

    stick with option 2

upload the same vid on both platforms.

extra tip: on YT check out your audience retention rate (under analytics in the video manager) and see what type of videos you create that have the most retention.

in the future create videos like the ones that get you the highest retention rate.

    best of luck,

  • 2 option is the easiest to deploy. I found that you will get a better reach when you upload a video to facebook rather than share it from youtube. FB will give higher priority for people to stay on FB longer.

Here is a tip.... Finish producing the entire videos series first. Then release them on 4 to 7 day interval.

It sounds like an amazing campaign and you are asking all the right questions.
The best idea would be to put all your videos directly on youtube.
Youtube offers much better analytics than facebook.
Youtube videos posted on facebook can be viewed directly from facebook. Your customers will not be redirected to Youtube.
If you plan on directing people to your Youtube page, customers will also be exposed to your other videos, not only the last one you posted.
A nice idea might be to post short teasers of your videos on Facebook and then direct them to the actual videos on Youtube.

As previously suggested, option 2 is the best - there's nothing wrong with having the same video on multiple platforms and it would be unproductive editing it, just for the sake of having a slightly different version on another platform.

Make sure to ask your viewers to subscribe/like in your videos to increase your audience.

Keep Facebook videos under 3 minutes, and add Youtube tab to your FB page for easy finding.
In my experience FB will show a video you upload more in the feed, than a link to YouTube.
I might also suggest you find an active FB Group, and share your videos from your page to the Group.

I think that second variant is the best. You will attract audience both ways and don't worry about same videos. I think it's not a problem.
