Coupon Site Affiliate Tracking

Hi
I'd like to start a voucher/coupon website on WordPress that gives commissions back to people who buy products from it. When they click a coupon, it will take them outside of my site to make a purchase on merchants site. How can I track the person to share the commission I get for his purchase?

When the visitor to your site clicks on the coupon, you'll probably have to have them fill out their name and email address at list to capture that info in your database. Then when they make a purchase on the outside website you'll obviously have to be notified of that and send the person funds afterwards.

Although if this is a custom system you're trying to create, you'd have to use paypal or some sort of payment gateway to send the money the customer, wouldn't you? Otherwise how do you get the money back to them from the commissions you make?

Thank you Lindseysan494 for the answer, but when I am notified of the sale that was made, would the notification normally include the referral id of the user who made the purchase. It is important to identify who actually made the purchase rather than general notification of the action performed on the other side.

        Generally, no.

It's not totally clear what you are trying to accomplish, but it appears that you are attempting to create coupons for products that are not your own (i.e. you are an affiliate). When an affiliate (you) is notified that one of their referrals made a purchase, the buyer is not typically identified.

Assuming you were able to identify the customer for every sale referred by you, there are potentially other issues you would have to provide for.

        1. Are your commissions paid out instantly by the merchant?

If not, you would need to delay your rebate to the buyer.

        2. How would you deal with refunds?

A buyer could easily purchase a product using your coupon, receive payment from you, and then dispute the charge with the merchant. The merchant would draw back the entire commission amount from you, but you would have no way of claiming a refund from the buyer.

Using Unique ID, but the question how much tracking are you looking for ? name ? and email ?

Most of coupon sites don't ask for either, so unless you planning to provide unique coupons, i wouldn't try to collect them

This depends completely on which e-commerce site you are using. For example, If you use WooCommerce, Wordpress already has a number of plugins to facilitate the job of splitting up payments eg. The Paypal Adaptive payments plugin.
The best would be to search for WordPress plugins associated with the site you are using or search for paypal split payment plugins. This way you should get a good idea of which site supports this initiative.
