Who Are You?

by Kevin Riley 93 replies
I just got another friend request from someone I don't know. In that case, i'll go check their profile. But, it's not a big help when all you get is:

John Doe
,, USA

And no profile picture.

I'm sorry, but if you want to be my friend you need an identity. In fact, if you want to interact with other Warriors, you need an identity.

Who are you? Who are the faceless ones?

So THAT is what's in the cup!!!

There's no such thing as whisky/whiskey abuse... in a literal sense...

However, to NOT drink is is to abuse it.

When I needed a forum photo I searched through hundreds of digital photos from the last years. Then it became clear to me who had been the family photographer for those years. There were lots of pictures of other family members and friends, but not one good picture of myself of the kind that could be used as a forum picture.

So, I took some pictures with my web camera, not wearing shades.

          Then it became clear to me;

I had to wear the shades to hide evidence of too many late nights of reading Warrior Forum posts.

Almost as hard to the body as whisky and whiskey abuse.

Whiskey abuse is when you neglect it and allow it to feel lonely.

You know Kevin, since the new forum, I have not put in one friend request.

I mean, who the hell would want to be friends with a geek who can't turn on
his computer without blowing it up and who sings almost as bad as you do?

But I have had quite a few friend requests, though I am still scratching my
head trying to figure out why.

Having said that, I just noticed that YOU aren't one of them.

Perhaps that really shows how incredibly intelligent you are not to want to
be associated with the likes of me.

Or maybe you're just jealous because "I'm A Warrior" is such a big hit with
            the local riff raff.

Well, in any case, I'm going to give you just ONE chance to be my friend.

See, in spite of your horrible singing voice, I think you do some really
cool vids and I figure if I'm your friend, maybe I can learn to do some
really cool vids too. And then if I ever come to Japan (not likely) we can
do some cool vids together. I promise to bring my guitar and sing "I'm A
            Warrior."

            So whadaya say Kevin?

            Will you be my friend?

Okay Kevin, it's very simple. Even I can do it.

                  1. You click on the person's name in the thread you're viewing.

                  2. A little menu will pop up with an option that says, "Add <name> to contacts" Go on, you can do it...That's IT!

                  3. A screen will pop up asking you to confirm this and underneath it will be
a line that says, "Also Send Friend Request" with a little check box next to
it. You check the box and click the confirm button. Go on, you can do it...
                  That's IT!

Okay, I gotta go back to work. Your friend request has been sent Kevin.
Now don't disappoint me or I may have to sulk all day.

              Steve,

At least you didn't say that you sing worse than Kevin. I had children over last time when I had a clip of kevin singing and they started crying.

If you ever talk to Kevin on skype to he tries to sing to you also.... errr hopefully that isn't just to me otherwise I'm a little scared now.

Now I'd call myself pretty faceless, but I wouldn't say I lack an identity. Plus I have 64 people on my friends list, including you Kevin and about half the people that said they don't accept just any friend request in your poll.

Personally I think I definitely have an identity, and my picture sort of contributes to it. Most of the people on my friends list are people that made cool replies to my posts or that bought WSOs. I also have a lot of people that were new to the forum and I sent them a friend request, just so they would have someone on their friends list.

Anyway. Everyone loves these new avatars, but really the forum survived for years without them.

I might be wrong, but I think Kevin means, someone who has at least done something with their profile on here, that's how I took it anyway and I will normally accept people who have put something there, I don't think the profile picture necessarily needs to be a personal photo though.. just my take on it...

Now back to laughing at all the funny responses as it is my coffee break now

I think that friend request was from me. Your actually the first person I tried to add as a friend.

I just finished reading one of your products and really enjoyed it. I originally sent you a PM to go along with the friend request, but I couldn't finish it because my 9 month old daughter had other plans.

I've also been meaning to put up a picture for weeks now. I'll be sure to do that today. Overall my networking and social skills the last year have flat out sucked...

I did make a post about the business model you teach since I find it so appealing, but I didn't get any responses in the thread.

    Much love,
    Dave.

I did make a post about the business model you teach since I find it so appealing, but I didn't get any responses in the thread.

      Much love,
      Dave.
OK. I wondered. You will be accepted now.

Thanks for coming out of the closet.

  • Howdy,
I'm a total n00b to this forum and this is my first post. I'm in the insurance industry and saw a huge opportunity in internet marketing that is being largely ignored by my competitors. Hope to get some insight from somebody that knows what they're talking about(since i don't)

Okay, sure, I'm one of the faceless ones. Take it up with me another time, but...

...here's an interesting conversation I overheard about 6 months ago:

Person A: Hey, man, are you friends with Katrina?

    Person B: Yeah.

    [short pause]

Person B (upon reflection): Well, we're friends on Facebook, but I don't actually know her or talk to her or anything...

    True story! :-)

This thread is ridiculous, and I am equally so for contributing to it. That said, I think the friend feature is more of a novelty than anything useful.

** NOTICE ** This has been a public service announcement from your
local sleep deprived neurotic marketing genius.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled hamster thread.

I totally agree. I have had to decline many friend request, because... 1) I didn't know them and 2) Their profile didn't give me didley to go on. 3) Eyes tell a lot. I don't even like to add a friend if they have an avator, instead of a real picture.

I'm at the point where I ignore most friend requests.

I hate to be impolite but it would be nice for people to understand that some might see my friends list as an implied endorsement (which it really isn't).

And I'm very careful about who I endorse or recommend.

I would think that before you sent a friend request you would at least have some kind of previous one on one contact with the person...or hamster.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

I've rarely made 'friend' requests, and only to those whom I 'know' here.

I've received several requests from some folks I don't know, and I've accepted those requests. I've assumed it's been because they found one of my posts meaningful, or it somehow resonated with them. So I don't have a problem with that.
